Missing Out

Featured Replies

Worrying signs today that Silva of Valencia may (and yes it is only a tenuous remour at this point) go to Anfield, have really hammered home the need for us to get our ship in order for next season as soon as possible. A player like Silva could be exactly what we need to add some much, much need dynamism to our attacking play, and for us to miss out on him because we don't really know what we are doing, would be a huge shame.

If the club do actually know who is coming in, or know Guus is staying, then that is all very well and good, but it would certainly make sense to announce this asap, to send out a message that CFC has finally sorted itself out, post-Jose, and that we are a good destination for any top player looking to make their mark in the most competitive league in Europe.

As well we know, the best attacking players are hard to find, and it would be a disaster to miss out on a real talent like Silva, just because we were fannying around and only decided to show some interest when it was too late.

i have said on other threads that i think silva is a must buy. one of the most creative players on the planet. £20 million is an absloute bargain and with valencia wanting to sell overseas we have to make a move

from the players point of view though, would you want to come to a club where an unknown manager is imminent?

the only thing i suppose that benefits us is that at some stage he will want to win a league title so that rules out liverpool

utd were meant to be after him the season before last so i wouldn't rule them out of making a move as well. they could do with a left winger too. especially if the ronaldo/madrid thing comes back up

Exactly, and the worrying thing is that while we are doing nothing to resolve the uncertainty, other clubs who are stable can be quietly making their interest known, meaning the can steal a considerable march on us. Not good.

I agree with you both, that we need a player like him and he would be an excellent addition. But I think the Silva to Anfield rumors hold only so much weight, because surely City are going to trump whatever bid English clubs put in for top stars like him, and with Valencia needing cash in a big way, the highest bidder would surely win the day.

Hopefully the scouse wind up trophyless, too, so that the uncertainty we saw all season goes into the summer and unsettles the squad. I get the sense that their talk of a 30m cash injection is total garbage, considering Gillet and Hicks seem as if they are scrambling to reorganize assets, and it doesnt make sense that they would sell teams in north america to invest in one in Britain where they are reviled by the fans. And I doubt anyone is going to help them double their money in the current market by taking the club off their hands. And Benitez has proven that 30m doesnt exactly do him alot of good when it comes to prudent buying. He needed nearly twice that to land Torres and Babel. Not to mention the fact that he spent about 30m this summer. I think its just a case of the papers latching onto the wave of pro-Scousism after their wins, and fat Rafa ousting Parry

It's a bit worrying. If he's leaving Spain, will he chose the team with a new unknown manager or a team with a spanish manager and some other spanish players?

If he don't want to leave Spain but have to because of Valencia being unwilling to sell to other spanish teams, then I wouldn't be surprised if he moved to Liverpool where he might feel most at home with Benitez and players like Alonso, Riera, Torres, Arbeloa and Reina. Not to mention the spaniards in the staff. It's like a little Spain in England.

Only chance we have is if he really wants to win a trophy and think Chelsea have a better chance at doing it or if we get a manager which he loves. Or else if he only want money and we pay him whatever he wants, but I'm not so sure I'd like a player like that at Chelsea.

Silva has previously stated that he and his family want to remain in Spain.Until he comes out and states otherwise we have to respect this.Internaionals week is notorious for made up stories and Silva to Liverpool is probably just that. If however he does state he wants to move to England we would have to throw our hats into the ring.
