Rumours are that Alonso will leave for Real and that Tubby will have the money to spend on an attacking player.

Granted, this is just more speculation, but we really should be looking to conclude our transfer dealings BEFORE they enter the market with added funds, as I would imagine we may well be looking at similar targets, and what with all the uncertainty at the moment, sad to say but L*verpool might be the more attractive option to, for example Aguero, at the moment.

End the JT speculation and tie up our marquee signing now. Seriously, how hard can it be?

I hear what you're saying, However, on the subject of transfers, this is what Petr Cech has to say:

"I think it is too early for new signings. Now we are going to spend one week training in London and then we leave for the United States on a 10-day tour.

"So there is still plenty of time and space for new signings to be made. I am sure new faces will emerge as well as some leaving the club. Chelsea will do business."

If Cech is right about this, then it looks like we'll just have to be patient.

them losing alonso will be a massive blow, he was their best player last season and im not sure they will get anyone in who will be as good to be honest. certainly if aguero is up for a move they will struggle to keep with the other clubs who will be after them.

I definitely agree that losing Alonso will be a huge blow for them (i even saw a few posters on F365 claiming Lucas, yes Lucas, would be a good enough replacement for him!), but I do worry about them chasing the same targets as us with a deepened transfer kitty.

The last thing we need is a bidding war, even if we can go higher than them.

Lofty, as for Cech's comments, it is true that we may just have to bide our time before any news happens, but I think he might be being diplomatic about things as he knows that we're not doing the best job at closing out deals, so has trotted out the patience line to be a good company man.

I think we can probably agree that having all new players in place for a proper pre-season would be a huge benefit for everyone.

I quite agree. However, I also think there's bit of a tendency to panic because we haven't yet made as many signings as many of us would like.

Tim, you make a good point. If the Alonso to Madrid story comes to pass, I too think we need to move and move decisively. If they were to get dramatically weaker by losing him, and we came out the next day with a massive signing to improve our attacking options, along with the club captain laying the speculation to rest, it would be a huge psycological boost. Titles are never won in the summer, but it would give the team the jolt they need to go into the season guns blazing.

I would absolutely f**king love it. It would be a huge blow for that team, and I think only Torres would be missed more by them.

The scenario I most fear is they turn around with that money and convince Villa (unlikely) or Aguero (too pricey) to move there. That would absolutely suck. I think its more likely they get Alberto Negredo or one of the Dutchies as a makeweight, and less cash, which might be pocketed by a tight ownership or wasted on minor signigns.

The two rumors I saw were that benitez was trying to line up either Gaetano D'Agostino from Udinese or Aquilani from Roma as replacements. But Alonso is just so critical, and any new signing will need time to adjust.

Also, if Alsonso wants out, and Barca really push hard for Mascherano, do you think he decides to bolt too?
