The John Legend/Roots album is really good, and just missed out on my list. I only bought Warpaint last week actually , i like it though its too early to be including it in a list i think. Im afriad im not familiar with the others. Anyway, heres my top 5 :

1 LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening

2 Jesse Malin & The St Marks Social - Love It To Life

3 Jenny and Johnny - Im Having Fun Now

4 John Mellencamp - No Better Than This

5 The Cure - Disintegration [Deluxe Edition Remastered Version] , not sure if this really counts!

I nearly included Jenny & Johnny actually. I gave up on LCD Soundsystem after a very disappointing gig in the summer. I'll have to listen to Jesse Malin (saw him a few years ago and really liked him).

I'll get back to you if necessary, but if you recommend Love it to Life I'll buy, I trust your judgement.

What sticks out in my mind the most with the Jesse Malin concert (2004) was he got everyone to sit on the floor for a particular number, the first and only time I've seen this done at an all-standing gig especially as the floor was in a rather "sticky" at the time. He came across as a really nice guy as well as a good musician, more than can be said for Tommy Stinson (also on the bill) who concentrated on name dropping.

Ive seen the 'sit down' routine from Malin before. Ive heard he only does it when he feels its a quiet crowd and wants them to get more involved. I really like his music , its certainly nothing new but it just has the right feel and attitude for me. I met him at his bar in New York and he is indeed a diamond of a bloke. 'Love it To Life' is great, and really quite heavy in places, but id say the best place to start is the debut 'The Fine Art Of Self Destruction' which is easily in my top 5 albums of the decade. Its produced by Ryan Adams which for me makes me even more biased.

Surprised to hear about Stinson. He always comes across as a really top bloke, (was a big fan of The 'Mats, so again, perhaps im biased!!)
