Wage Caps

Featured Replies

Does anyone think if players had their wages docked for not playing well then they wouldnt be long pulling their socks up?

Or bonuses for goals, assists, tackles completed. The likes of lampard going home with 100k + a week for smashing freekicks

into the wall week after week annoys me. If I didnt perform at work I wouldnt be long getting an ear bashing.

As bobby robson one said, how do you make millionares sweat.

Since you purposely used Lampard as an example in your post - you're absolutely crazy if you think someone like Lampard would value one weeks wages over beating our rivals and progressing to the semi finals of the Champions League.

More importantly, if it was just Chelsea who employed this sort of pay structure, it may (and would) deter players from joining.

If Drogba isn't on the field, we seem to have no-one who can take a remotely good free-kick lol...

Face it, we overpay players, and City overpay players perhaps even more.

Almost none of the players are earning their keep at the moment, but I doubt taking their money will make them play better...probably make them sulk.

Good in theory but totally unworkable in the real world, besides,I would never be critical towards Lamps when he has & always will give 100% effort.

Mind you,a team based bonus judged on the club's succsses,to be shared equally, may work, but it would have to be for everyone,(inc backroom staff).

Never going to happen, would you want less pay if didn't perform at work. Wages is not the answer to our problems but lack of Passion and Romans interfering.

He still goes home with his wages no matter how he plays. That wouldnt be acceptable in many other jobs. I know it would never happen but I do think players would put more effort in if they had to actually play for their wage.

No I wouldnt but im sure i wouldnt be long in getting the chop if I didnt pull my weight.

Im dont mean to single out lamps by the way, just an example.

How do you quantify this anyway? By their scores in the papers? The same papers that have given players we all rate as the MOTM with a 4 or a 5?

Maybe the manager could gauge how well they played and pay them accordingly, just to cause a bit of unrest in the dressing room when a player has given their all and yet still gets fined a big chunk of their wages.

Why not just cut out the middle man, and give Roman a scrap piece of paper before he sits down at each game, so he can simply write down the amount of money he wants to pay each player.

While the pay/bonus players recieve is frankly, absurd the question of motivation still remains.Kalou is in my opinion a lazy player, who has shown he has the talent but not the commitment to prove it.

It comes down to the players personallity,if for example you doubled J.T.'s wages,he wouldn't play with twice the effort, because he already does.

I guess you would hope the glory of a sports career would be enough,(and wages),but it's that little bit 'extra' that seperates the very best from all the rest, and in truth ,I guess that will always be so.

The only way a wage cap can be applied is before a contract is signed and every team in UEFA would have to be subject to it. I was just thinking about the amounts of money some of the top earners in football are earning and it's actually not that much compared to other sports.

For example if you take the top earner in all of football they are making about 200,000 pounds a week which ends up being about 10,000,000 pounds a year. 10,000,000 pounds a year is about 16,000,000 US dollars.

In American football Peyton Manning, the best american football player is making 20,000,000 dollars a season. He plays only 16 games per season also.

Right now, you could argue that european footballers are underpaid.

Talking as a previous Semi-pro, I think it is just plain stupid. ALL of the players playing in that level are highly competitive and would change money for a win every day. They would not be there otherwise. Money is certainly not the most important thing for most of the players in football. It is all about winning trophies and being a good footballer. It is easy to judge a player while sitting on a couch and drinking a beer. The fact is that the situation is totally different on the pitch and saying that some players are only playing for money is just plain stupidity!
