Posted March 20, 201410 yr I watched a bit of the Scottish League Cup Final the other day. It was a terrible match but what kept me watching was the Aberdeen fans who sung Carefree and 10 Men Went To Mow all through the game. To be honest i can't make my mind up about this cos they are both uniquely Chelsea songs ( especially 10 men) and it sounds a bit weird other fans singing our songs. I'm pretty sure "Flying High" is a Chelsea original as well and other teams have adapted there own versions. Mind you in the 70's every team's fans sang "Walk On". I despise that song it really to quote Peter Griffin Grinds My Gears
March 20, 201410 yr I spent a lot of my childhood in Aberdeen, and was a relative regular at Pittodrie, then followed them a bit when I moved down to Glasgow whenever they played on the central belt. Dons fans sing 'Standfree' rather than 'Carefree', though '10 men' is sung with almost exactly the same lyrics. As far as I'm aware both songs have been regulars up there for years and years, so if they we did sing them first they would have probably been picked up by AFC a long time ago IMO. I haven't heard any other teams sing 'ten men', but lots of teams do their own variation on 'Carefree' though, off the top of my head I can think of Hibs, Middlesbrough and Wimbledon.
March 20, 201410 yr I'm surprised Aberdeen sing our songs considering how them and Spurs are right up each others arses.
March 20, 201410 yr Author I first heard 10 men at a night game at Luton in 1981. Aberdeen games were often shown as highlights in 1983 when they won the ECWC and they were not singing it then. As for " Carefree" replacing it with" Standfree" it's still a Chelsea original and changing one word doesn't change a thing.

I wasn't saying that AFC sang them first, I'm just saying that they've been singing them for years - especially Standfree. Is there anything wrong with using a chant another team use and changing the words to suit your team? I do believe we were the first to start singing Carefree to the tune of the Lord of the Dance, but every team on earth sings their own versions of songs picked up from other teams including us - it happens all the time.
