Guus Hiddink - New (old) Chelsea-manager

Wenger is awful under pressure. When things are going well and there's no urgency, he's great. When crunch time comes, he crumbles. That's why Arsenal are so good every year when there's a sense of "this isn't crucial because there are so many more games left". Then when it becomes "OMG they've caught up, if we lose our title hopes are gone" they crumble.

In an international tournament, every game is crucial. Wenger can't handle those situations. I'm like that too by the way.

I don't accept the idea that England have to go foreign due to the lack of good English coaches. You can't tell me that Chris Coleman is better than anyone in England. The difference is that the Wales FA don't sabotage their coaches with their politics and meddling.

Allardyce seems the best choice. He won't get a title, but he'll get further than England have gotten unless they get a nightmare draw. I can guarantee that England will not be humiliated. His teams are hard to beat and frustrate the hell out of opponents.

The Big Sam style isn't pretty, but losing isn't pretty either, and you will only have to watch it a few times a year rather than week after week.

Spot on about Wenger - and I struggle under pressure too incidentally. Perhaps his greatest failing, in a hotly-contested category, is his inability to hire back room staff and players that could cope with pressure and minimise the effect of his ability so to do.

Speaking about england, well from seaman to james to robinson to scott carrson to robert green to hart, they all had that moment with the national team.. is it a curse or maybe simply they're mentally weak that easily crumble under pressure, gerrard just hinted recently..

I think only few people can strive under pressure and unfortunately I'm not 1 of them.. is wenger 1 of them? not sure but I don't think pressure can so much get to a football manager, I mean it's not real time for them, surely pressure can't stop him from making preparation and giving instruction as per usual, can it? I think his flaw is simply that he doesn't have a plan B..

Pressure can absolutely affect a manager, speaking as someone who gets flustered under pressure. You can become indecisive, change tactics or lineups on a whim, send mixed signals, not communicate in a confident way, get unusually snappy and unapproachable, etc. When you watch match videos to devise your tactics, you might not be thinking or focusing as sharply and therefore not notice important things. You might not notice small bad habits players have reverted to that should factor into your player selection.

That atmosphere rubs off on everyone. If you look obviously worried and unconfident, everyone else will get that message.

They also lack a true strong leader like JT among the players.

That's some valid points there but I still don't think a manager can hide behind pressure excuse because it's literally the manager job to deal with that sort of things.. some people hate wenger but I don't think he's that loathable especially when his comedy gold came into play and plus he's doing a great job, at least for opposition fans that is lol..

I agree that a manager should not use pressure as an excuse, and I've personally never heard Arsène say that. I'm simply explaining how managers can be affected by pressure.
