I was shocked and saddened to read last night that Keith Emerson (of ELP fame) passed away, even more sadly, via suicide. He was 71.

Emerson, in my eyes, was one of the most musically talented men ever to not only tinkle ivory (or at least a Hammond organ), but also stab knives into it, play it upside down, and set it on fire. I know Emerson, Lake & Palmer (and also the Nice), both of whom are on the more intense and abstract end of the prog scale, aren't necessarily everybody's cup of tea but there is no denying the man's talent and imagination for the grandiose and the magnificent.

R.I.P. Keith
