August 2, 20178 yr Since the turn of the decade, this seems to be a goal the club aims for after every summer. After the 2012 summer window, somehow we managed to lose Mereiles and Essien on deadline day leaving us with 3 midfielders in the first team -- we were forced to convert David Luiz to a midfielder. What is it with this club and small squads? We tend to be lucky with injuries but in terms of depth, it's almost non-existent. Not to mention we don't even bother calling up reserve players to get some minutes. I thought this inconvenience with the squad would have changed after the sacking of Mourinho but so far this summer, that trend seems to continue.
August 2, 20178 yr We certainly seem to be trying to spend as much as we make also. It is the eternal questions, though. Why don't we give the "yoof" a chance. With the amount of players we have on loan it is rather baffling. I can only assume that many supporters are looking at them with Blue Tinted glasses on, that just maybe they aren't as good as we thought/hoped. I'm certainly more willing to trust a manager that sees them week in week out, and can understand whether or not they'd fit into his philosophy, than I am to trust someone on this forum. I am also going to reserve complete judgement until the end of the transfer window, as I think we are done selling, and will probably add a couple more plaer (perhaps I am being overly optimistic here, but I can't think that we'll go into a Premiership and CL season "as is" right now.
