Chelsea the new Man u

Batesy when he was in charge often used to state that he wanted Chelsea to become the Man utd of the south, a target that at the time offended most Chelsea fans (pissed me right off keep hearing that). Then when the megastore opened he justified it a bit by saying that in terms of income and worldwide fan base he wanted to be similar in size to manu. Fair enough but never going to happen. But what has happened in recent years is that we have started to become the manu of the south, sadly not the club or the team but the fans.

We got tonked Tuesday night, okay it happens. I personally think that as fans we deserve that sometimes, the reaction to that though is disgusting, "the manager is crap", "the players are hopeless" etc etc. It happens everytime we are below par. Last year the players were immense, they got us to the brink of an incredible treble without a manager for most of the season. They got a fraction of the praise that they deserved.

This year we have played without a striker, without what most of us expected to be our most influential midefielder and without last years player of the year for most games, we're top of the league, top of our group in the Champions League!

We are not perfect, no team ever has been or ever will be - back to back trophey's from "a boring side" proved that! But we're a f*kin' good team, a f*kin' immense club, and as fans in a fortunate position and one in which every fan in the world wants to be in. There are some people that will claim they want to be back in the second division "like the good old days" and I can understand that, but the game has changed and even if we were there we'd have sh*te fans, besides which the point of sport is to win!

Debate on the rights and wrongs of any situation is what makes this site what it is, but the number of people that are only interested in negative posts is distressing and is making us like Man u or dare I say it Arsenal fans. We're a top side, we're CHELSEA (perenial underacheivers!!!) and we're f*kin' brilliant. Some of you need to start enjoying it while it lasts rather than dreaming of the nearly days - or worse thinking that we deserve to win!!!

Barn, I too have felt there is usually too much doom and gloom from members of the forum when we hit a bad result and I usually avoid posting at such times. (I love you all, don't get me wrong  )

My views are very akin to yours - we have a magnificent team, most pundits tip us to win everything there is to win around, we are one of the most formidable, feared and respected opponents there are and the players, at least most of them ( I am sorry, even my optimism can't put a positive spin on Malouda or Anelka) have been doing and are doing a fantastic job. Our losses, to me, are much more attributable to bad luck and specific mistakes and situations rather than to all the players being crap and not giving a damn, as seems to be the prevailing sentiment.

We do have our faults, but our play has not been nearly as black-and-white as I see it made out.

I am personally enjoying every second of it, so Chins Up ;)

Absolutely spot on Barn.

The only thing that does pi** me right off though is the JCL fans that are now frequenting the Bridge (but that goes with the territory of being a big club). I am a season ticket holder and the amount off toffs that now go to games and know nothing about the game (but still have the gaul to talk shi* about the side when things are not going particularly well during games) realy gets my goat.
