  1. I was at the night game when the floodlights failed at spuds as a innocent little ardent Chelsea suporter,a guy called Dave Brown was my leader!!! being Born in Ladbroke grove with Chrissy Harwood and Mark Gregor the QPR bods and Mick Camille!! I enventually got shifted to Dog kennel hill Estate in South London.Where upon three brothers had a profound effect on the rest of my life.Dave supported Chelsea Steve Supported Spuds
  2. fark melbournite maybe we should get together and talk about your childhood!! let's open a new thread.
  3. Dont agree with a lot that you say, but that's another story but you can enlighten me, I was at the spuds night game when the floodlights failed, I dont think we faired well then, i think that was your golden years firm wise, was you at that game and what was your memories?
  4. Old Northstand, Would love to here tales from London United when Chelsea/Millwall/Arsenal/Westham etc teamed up for a short period of time to give it too especially the mancs, Have heard a few stories and heard it went sour when babs and the westham fella fell out,any chance of a bit of enlightenment. probably good for a thread not sure if it has been spoken about on here.
  5. Totally agree mike,We can discuss it as much as we want, Chelsea were at one stage fairly racist as were a lot of other clubs, and when I've mentioned skinheads well that was the time frame that I use to go IE 1973-1980 and as mentioned never had a problem myself but yes heard people scream things directed towards the pitch.DH and that to me were the original skins and have seen a clip somewhere of him bowling up to a reggae gig.not sure where or what time period the skinhead turned for the worse but have heard the NF lot were called boneheads by the original skinheads but only hearsay for me, I know we have gone right off topic here but as you no Skinheads were a very important part of working class England in the 70's and on as were the rudeboys and that ska era as well..
  6. Agreed I think it was more of a pack mentality that sometimes reared it's head, Most London and Northern clubs had their fair share of porblems in the 70's. Westham certainly had it's fair share,Everton and leeds also come to mind,Minorities always get it in the neck and i'm not just talking about colour of skin.Lest not forget the Irish copped it as well at one stage.Being halfcaste and young and seeing a Skinhead with tats on neck and face and big Doctor martins was very intimidating I can tell you, especially if you were out of you manor, and as mentioned you tended to see them 30 or 40 handed as well. Being brought up on the Dog kennel Hill Estate in South London, I never really experienced any problems, Mid 70's East london was the place which always had me on edge!!
  7. I'm in Melbourne as well live in Mentone been here since 1999,I do believe there's a bit of a supporters club that meet up in certain pubs for games, not that i've been along to any though. I'm sure Melbourne Blue know's alot more than me about this. Good place Melbourne many similiarites to London in a lot of ways, Although i still miss family and freinds but there is always some kind of downside to emigrating.

  9. For the life of me, I cannot remeber it being there and funny thing is I just looked up the first game I ever went to which was Chelsea Vs Everton 1973 which we won 3-1 I always thought it was a night game as I can remember standing near the bovril entrance and it being dark, I now realise it was in winter and it must have been towards the end of the game, I was 8..
  10. When was the stand in the Northstand demolished,as I cannot remember it ever being there when I first started going in 1973 I could be wrong though..

  12. I'm halfcaste and started going to Chelsea from the mid 70's and never really had any trouble, although I once was nearly handed a NF handout untill the skindhead looked didn't say anything and quickly took his hand back. I was in the middle of the shed on one occasion and saw a guy shouting out chop the black $astard and Kojak tapped him on the shoulder!! you should have seen the guys face went red as a beetroot and couldn't apologise as much!!! From what i kinda of saw it was part and parcel of the times as London was very rascist in the mid 70's, If you were let's say a slightly darker shade of white then going over to places like East london was almost a no no funny thing is you rarely ever sore one rascist skin head there was always half a mob of em that would want to beat the sh*t out of you!!
  13. Best ones I can remember not particularly being Chelsea were Newcastle Vs Nottingham Forest in the cup where they got the game abandoned and I think one the replay. Man Utd Vs Man City was a good one, I think that triggered fencing at Old Trafford If memory serves me right was an ex player was it Frances lee that scored and the Stretford End emptied onto the pitch.I was at Tottenham Vs Chelsea when it seemed the whole ground was fighting. Also Celtic Vs Rangers in the cup was probably the worst. I also went to the England Vs Scotland game when the goalpost came down!! For chelsea was when we went up and it seemd the whole of Stamford bridge was on the pitch..
  14. If Robin Beste went to William Penn I use to play alongside him for a good few years.
  15. Probably for the biggest attendance away thread, I was at white sh*te lane when they beat us 2.0 and evidently put us down, when there was all that fighting on the pitch, that was also seriously overcrowded, and as a youngster through the crush in the paxton got lifted out into the stand to the left as you look at the goal, which was full of Tottenham so not realizing went outside to find that the gates were then locked. I remember sitting o0n the floor at the back of the Shelf and hearing this amazing roar, where upon there must have been a good thousand Chelsea that had turned up late(North Stand me thinks) who ended having a bit of a riot outside with no tottenham around the old bill ended up escorting us back to seven sisters and then straight through to Victoria, I can clearly remember being stuck in the tunnel before Victoria for at least 20 mins with everyone getting restless and then pulling into Victoria with Police everywhere...
  16. Always thought the Palace game was 55,000 plus, I was in The Shed and it was bone crushing packed, saw a few people getting stretcherd out due to the crush,as a young 10 year old preety much went every home game from 1975 onwards for about 4years and all the London Derby's,The 4.2 Liverpool game was also packed but nothing to the extent of the Palace game though,Best Walk On The Shed had ever done though against the Reds.
