  1. City was always interesting. Feel like they always had 2 mobs when we went down there. A firm made up of mainly whites from all over Manchester and another mainly black firm from Moss Side. Tottenham were a bit like that too but the whites and blacks got on a bit better
  2. How do you you jib with a high vis jacket, out of curiosity of course! I always used to jump the turnstiles but with a high vis jacket, do you walk through a certain section. Do you print ID badges? Sounds way too complicated for a simpleton like me
  3. Out of interest, what areas were QPR? Lived a bit too north of west London to encounter them.
  4. Dodgy police pass. god that's risky! especially bringing your child along. you can have all these police passes but if you ain't got the confidence then it won't work!
  5. My Fulham mate is in his 50s but still buys kids tickets. Some of these lower league clubs still dont get it. Dont think he' ever paid more than a fiver for his tickets. still doesn't get his money's worth :P
  6. Any of you lot ever jibbed any stadiums? Used to do it a lot in my younger years but speaking to some of the younger Chels, it's still ongoing! Think the final in Munich 2012 was the easiest. I had a ticket but loads of mates didn't and were there in the stadium. Think I shared my seat area with about 8 others! In the 80s it was piss easy but glad the traditional lives on! Any memories of doing it yourself?
  7. Actually quite glad you posted this! know 1 on the list who I need to catch u with. the 'ban for life' is wrong though cause remember meeting him at the Bridge in 2002.
  8. Same with slaidburn street, where the road turned into a shrine for chelsea just before the fa cup. In Victorian times it was called the 'worst street in london' and my grandad who lived there told me it was pretty much slums pre war. Now of course you would need millions to live there.
  9. Yeah Lisson Grove was Chels. Think Sugs was from round there which is why he's a blue :)
  10. Also noticed how Paddington was mainyl Chels (I think) while neighbouring Notting Hill was QPR. This was when Notting Hill was working class btw. Now they probably sit in the West stand upper at chelsea when the theatre is sold out.
  11. top picture there! can't believe the east stand (?) was that tall. Surpirsed there were never more tragedies like Hillsborough. So many people and so little health and safety.
  12. Slum clearance has lead to west ham fans being scattered all over. I know that South Oxhey, near Watford, had a lot of West Ham fans despite being north west of London because of the east end slum clearance. Another weird one, Epsom has the 2nd highest percentage of Fulham fans after Putney. After WW2, families in Fulham who had their homes destoryed during the Blitz were relocated in Epsom. Question for bazablue, why did kilburn have a lot of Chelsea? Always knew a lot from that area who went games in the 80s. In Hendon we were Chels because the boys from Burnt Oak were part of the Northbank Highbury while gangs from Cricklewood used to go WHL and follow Spurs. We were separating ourselves from those lot.
  13. Places you wouldnt expect to find Chelsea fans were Kilburn and Hendon. Come from Hendon and in the 70s/80s we always brought loads to the Bridge. This is depsite the fact that in the rest of Barnet it was all Arsenal and Spurs. My secondary school was in between Hendon and Bunt Oak. All of Burnt Oak were Arsenal and they made up a large part of the Northbank in the 80s while Hendon were fairly well represented in the Shed. School was always interesting befpore the game :D.
  14. Media is consantly telling everyone that football only became popular after 1990 world cup but these figures contradict that completly. What they really mean to say is that 1990 is when companies began to realise there was a fortune to be made from the game.
  15. You're right about the public transport. I was just being naive and assumed it must have been crap because it was the 30's. :P
  16. Record Attendance: 82,905 vs Arsenal on 12 October 1935 How did we manage to have this many fans at the Bridge!! Must have been helped by the fact that there was standing and no health & safety (would have packed them in like sardines). Was football really this popular in the 30s? You look at the highest attendances at other stadiums like Highbury and they were all achieved during this decade? Why the 30s? Also, where did our fans come from? Transport I assume must have been piss poor in those days so assume that EVERY man in west brompton and fulham would have gone to the game to reach this attendance. No chance of people from surrey or even west london suburbs attending. Any idea on ticket prices? I assume football was TOTALLY working class in those days so expect tickets to be almost free to atttract that many people.
  17. we need another exit from stamford bridge other than just fulham road. i dont know if any roads are available but even if they are, the residents there would be millionaires so would do anything in their power to stop it.
  18. no chance of Battersea station (Malaysian company owns it now) and another proposed area in Earls Court not available. Very limited space in that part of London and CPO makes a move impossible. Not complaining though, love to stay at the Bridge :D
  19. Maybe it's because I know lots of Arsenal fans who have been priced out of football that I'm fearing the worst. Who knows. I'd love to have new fans but don't want to sacrifice quality for quantity. I can almost guarantee you that ticket prices will not fall so these extra 10,000 won't be kids from west london/surrey. This Twickenham move is a long shot. Richmond council stops concerts from taking place there so 20 odd games per season is optimistic. This development won't happen for a while so let's see how Tottenham and West Ham fare with their new stadium.
  20. Can't see cheap tickets happening for families and youths. That's what arsenal fans were expecting and the oppsite happened and instead the ticket prices rocketed. The extra 10,000 will then probably come from Japenese tourists and co-operations handing out tickets to their employees. No thanks.
  21. Really don't think we need to extend the Bridge. knee jerk reaction from the club after Tottenham and Liverpool extending/changing their stadiums.
  22. great map. still shocked at how little the areas for tottenham are. did they also have north essex aswell?
  23. I always wondered about these areas just outside West London. People from Slough came from all over London so I assume the area would have been a mixture of all sorts of clubs?
  24. Exactly. That's why I was wondering more about the support in the 70s and before. Very few of the original Londoners live in these areas. Laughable how some of these areas are now upmarket when they used to be the pits.
  25. I think this is the reason we always had a good away following, we could get a lot of fans from the Home Counties. Surrey is definitly Chelsea country but some areas outside London we had good support from despite no obvious link. Always remember meeting fans from Tunbridge Wells, can't see why they would choose Chelsea over any other London club. No geographical link.
