To be honest, I am disappointed. I am not going to sit here and say we had a "close call" and "what a relief" that we didn't sign Robinho. I trust Scolari, and because I trust Scolari I believe Robinho was going to be an important part of the Chelsea squad for this season. Therefore, not having him is going to be a blow, particularly since we've recently allowed a creative player to leave in SWP, one that has been more effective than other's we've kept, such as Malouda. Watching our last two matches (and I don't expect we'll have settled until after the first maybe ten matches), we lack a cutting edge. In games where the opposing side put ten men behind the ball and/or harry our every pass, we struggle to put good attacks together. Having another creative and unpredictable player would have been good, particularly since Scolari wanted him. This has left an awful aftertaste. It has been handled badly. I've said before, I don't care who the guilty party was, having Robinho shirts sold on the Megastore was absolutely ridiculous! On the one hand, I dislike Madrid more than I ever have done, but on the other, it serves us right they decided to play hard ball with us. So, this is a big disappointment - I'm not going to deny that; yet, we move on. I just hope Drogba gets back to full fitness soon. Say what you like about him, he is much more effective in the lone striker's role than Anelka. I've not seen anything to suggest that Scolari is going to be able to use Nic any differently than Grant did, and that is a bit disappointing. This off-season, for me personally, has been about keeping Lamps and Drogs. Now, I just want them both to be playing together, along with our other two spine members in Cech and Terry. Then we can concentrate on getting our stability back and then adding slight improvements in creativity from having Deco on the pitch and Scolari on the sidelines. Cheers, Butch
