Posted March 12, 200916 yr So, CL Top 16-Round has past and I`d like to make few notes about personalities, who has left their small or big step in midweek, by dividing them into categories. You could pick or add something I have missed. So, REVELATION OF THE WEEK : (who impressed you most of all) Giovinco (Juventus) - Juve youngster and a big hope. Came off the bench when it was 1-1 and tried to play in a commanding fashion. Was very agile, has made few impressive run and stayed in my memory. A very bright involvment. Motta (Roma) - Played a RB for Roma. Started slowly, but adapted very fast. He has made few impressive runs, possess the ball well and created much threat to Arse goals, having awesome shot. `Guilty` in the most controversial episode of the game with dissalowed penalty in the end of 1st half, when Arse defender, obviously, held Motta in the pen.area, which makes Roma fans really mad. They booed Mehuto Gonzalez until the end of the half. Santon (Inter) - It seems young and very solid finding of JM. Handled well with Ronaldo in the 1st leg and has made Ronaldo to switch on the left flank, occasionally, during yesterday`s match. Ronaldo scored anyway, but mostly due to excellent Rooney`s timing and cross. C**T OF THE WEEK: Salihamidzic (Juventus) - Has made 6 dirty fouls during 1st time of the 2nd leg, severely pissing Lampard off. I Can`t not to say he always was that. Denilson (Arsenal) - The same reason, but he did it during whole 90 mins, going into tackles with stright leg(s) and managed to avoid yellow for that. A young t*sser. CHEATER&DIVER OF THE WEEK: (who can match with Liverpool players?) Torres (Liverpool) - Has made a foul on a defender in a penalty area, which let Kuyt to get into possesion and pass the ball to Torres, who scored and pointed at his number and name on the back-side of the shirt. (Yeah, we know what that about). Gerrard (Liverpool) - In the 1st half I saw him actually diving near penalty area, what was undoubtably accepted by ref and his team-mates. Who has doubts here!!?? HERO OF THE WEEK: (Chelsea biased nomination :D ) Essien (Chelsea) - His first start after very serious injury. Not only did well, but has scored a vital goal, which gives Chelsea the ticket to quarters, running away from two Juve defenders. Gerrard (Liverpool) - Ah? Leads Liverpool to the genuinely glorious victory.... other opinions? Ribery (Bayern Munich) - Hasn`t participated in 2nd leg, but did everything to transfrom the 2nd leg into Bayern`s training session. Scored the 1st goal in the 1st leg, you know what happened after that. Sir Alex Ferguson (ManUtd) - Not a hero maybe, but it was very difficult to find a best player in United squad yesterday and credit goes here to Sir Alex, I think. DISSAPOINTMENT OF THE WEEK: Nedved (Juventus) - Had all the chances and motivation, having admitted it`s last season in his career, to make the difference. But, unfortunately, collided with few our little boys and was ought to leave the field after just 15 min in action. What happened if he stayed? Doni (Roma) - Could save Roma in penalty shoout-out easily, when few Arse shots were obviously, easy to catch. But it seems he was too tired phisically (is it possible?) or mentally.... DISGRACE OF THE WEEK: Real Madrid - One of the best, one of the most glorious and rich spanish and world clubs has given a lot to promises to beat Liverpool, but was totally overplayed by rivals with a very obscene final score. Sporting - The club without quality, expirience and spirit you need in CL play-off, but anyway I think few have predicted the way in which Bayern have thrown them out. At least they could try to look more dignified in the 2nd leg, but they simply gave up instead. Alberto Undiano Mallenco (Referee) - Was a referee in our 2nd clash with Juventus. After 30th min he completely lost the touch of the game, making a lot of mistakes and harsh decisions. Looked completely below the level of the game, below the quality of teams involved into action. Please, pick or add something I`ve missed.
March 12, 200916 yr DISGRACE OF THE WEEK:Michael Ballack FFS give it a rest. I really can't understand this almost pathological hatred that some people have for Ballack.
March 12, 200916 yr Some harsh harsh opinions there, I didnt think that Nedved was disappointing, Saliham was a c**t, or the ref was that bad. At all For the heroes I would go with -Essien (obviously) -Llorente who reversed the tie for his team -Messi who scored an unreal goal -Bayern top to bottom -Henry who was excellent last night -Giggs who seems to be ageless once more -Del Piero and Giovinco who both gave us a run for our money -Arsenal's young team, as much as it pains me to say, who couldve curled up and died when they went a goal down early, and got through in the ballsiest of ways -Pana, who might still have gone through but for a late winner -Casillas, who should never have to suffer that again As for the disappointments -Aguero and Atheltico who I honestly thought were easily going to overturn Porto -Sporting, who appeared to just give up -Whoever officiated the second leg of Liverpool-Madrid. No doubt the scoursers deserved to win, but jesus, terrible calls -Baptista, who could have buried his old club -Zlatan -Benzema, who outside of a great dummy didnt really do much yesterday. skied a golden chance too -Juninho, who erased a good performance with a stupid sending off -St. Stevie Starfish, who mightve been a star man, but made sure the whole world knew he was a cheat first the absolute disgraces -Real Madrid CF. Ive seen the foul on Pepe and the faux handball a billion times. But they let Liverpool grab that game by the scruff of the neck and never let go. Even at 2-0 down they had the firepower to overturn it, but by all accounts Robben was a ghost, and they actually let Andre Dossena score on them. Unreal. I cant believe how far this team is away from the Pre-Beckham Galacticos. That team put on clinics in footballing wherever they went. I remember them in Old Trafford circa 2003, running away with the game. Cant believe this current crop think themselves fit to wear the shirt. On Tuesday's evidence, Im shocked they made it out of the group stages. Utterly worthless. The team of Di Stefano, Puskas and Zidane being humbled like that
March 12, 200916 yr I actually didn't think Del Piero was that good, though my memory is starting to fail me all I really remember him doing is hitting that free kick into Belletti, and scoring the penalty. Agreed about Giovinco Giggs was great yesterday, and I must admit I hardly noticed many blatant dives and complaining from Ronaldo yesterday. It is just good to see Chelsea with a positive aura around them again.
March 12, 200916 yr Disappointments of the week: Ranieri - Proved once again that he's not the man to lead teams in big games. Made three substitutes - two of which was completely wrong. Might have cost Juve the victory. And letting the teams best player this season start on the bench, is he mad? Chelseas midfield - Am I the only one who think that they weren't as good as usual? Juventus three man midfield actually outshone them parts of the game. Real Madrid - Losing against Pool is bad, getting totally raped by them is just a disgrace. Sporting - Might not be the best team in the world, but losing 12-1 over two games against Bayern Munich is just pathetic. Chiellini - I don't think he should have been sent off but it was still a stupid challenge to make. And seing as the ref had been a complete idiot for most of the game Chiellini must have known that he might get a 2nd yellow card if he as much as touched another player. Finally I'll have to mention Nedved. Last season as a player, last chance to win the Champions League, last chance to help the team in Europe - and he gets injured. That's the 2nd time I've seen Petr Nedved walk of the pitch in the Champions League crying. It really broke my heart :) Edited March 12, 200916 yr by The Moos
March 12, 200916 yr Author WestWay I've never said Ned was dissapointing, I've said it's a dissapointment to see Ned off getting injured. Please read it first and react only after or a u working for The Mirror? ))
March 19, 200916 yr Well, if thats the case, you werent really disappointed in Doni either, despite tarring him and Nedved with that label. And, for all you know, I might have been referring to Nedved's CL campaign being disappointing rather than his play itself which was fine for the time he was on. So in hiding me for rushing to conclusions about what you have said, you have in fact rushed to conclusions about what I have said. I dont know if you read that post by BJD that said the same over missed translations, but there is usually a stage at which people clear miscommunication up before they resort to saying "please read again and react after that, or do you work for the Mirror". You dont need to get insulting with people, especially considering the issue of communication.

You dont need to get insulting with people, especially considering the issue of communication. Actually, I had no intention to insult somebody. It was my reaction for your words "Some harsh harsh opinions there, I didnt think that Nedved was disappointing,". I don`t like it too. I`ve just said Doni and Nedved were both dissapointing. That`s why I put my comments with each respective person, from which you could understand what was dissapointing is Nedved`s injury and not his perfomance, which I admire very much. And he has no chance to change the fact of injury he has got. Doni had all the chance to become a hero, but failed on that, performing weak in the shoot-out. That`s his fault, that`s why I think he was dissapointment.
March 19, 200916 yr Right, thats what i realize you meant in retrospect. It is disappointing seeing a guy like Nedved shelved so quickly into the second leg. Of course, I was glad we didnt have to face him, but if it really is his last season then its a real shame, as Moos said too. I dont think you mean to be intentionally insulting, im just saying between this being the internet where human words lack inflection and with the language barrier, it can occasionally happen that people lose something in translation. And if I disagree with you, its not a personal thing at all, and in cases like this might not even be a difference of opinion B)
