ethicalstrategy reacted to The Brit in Jose Mourinho threadI was there, saw people abusing Jose and was embarrassed...as I've said before, we as fans know Jose better than anyone and shouldnt fall for his sh*t...some of his comments have annoyed and disappointed me at times over the last nine months or so...but whereas five months ago songs like 'you're not special any more' was banter, last night it was a far more vitriolic tone, like what we'd reserve for fsw...we have moved on and I'm relieved he isn't manager anymore...but without him, Chelsea would not be the club they are today and no weak barb from his direction will make me forget or stop appreciating that

ethicalstrategy reacted to The Brit in Jose Mourinho threadI'm sure no-one, myself included, who is criticising the fans for abusing mourinho last night, is saying we should love jose when we face utd...but don't hurl abuse at him ffs...some people have very short memories and are ungrateful...he may say the odd bs thing, but we should know better than anyone it's bs...as mentioned above, get behind antonio, get behind our team...Mourinho deserves our everlasting respect, even when he does act like a nob

ethicalstrategy got a reaction from Jones1905 in Eden Hazard - Chelsea LegendA large number of journalists really dislike us, either because of Abramovich or Mourinho. They will take every opportunity to gloat over our misfortunes and put the boot in where they can.
I'd like to give more than few a good slap.
I'd piss myself if we somehow nicked the league. If not, then come on City.

ethicalstrategy reacted to sonic90 in Eden Hazard - Chelsea LegendSaw this comment on DM:
The DM are cutting his quotes and interchanging them which gives a totally false impression of what he meant. I saw the interview and unlike you, I speak French. He certainly wasn't glum and the "we are not set to play football" came in the middle of his interview, it was not what he said first, which is what this article tries to imply. In French, "jouer au foot" is a synonym of "possession". We also say "faire tourner le ballon". That's what he meant, he even went on to say that we are a counter attacking team. Nice try, DM.

ethicalstrategy got a reaction from ashwin in Gary Cahill - PL CL FAC LC EL championI still find him a bit of a conundrum. He does some brilliant things but at other times he looks a bit lost. In particular, he looks very uncomfortable when he is pressed on the ball. Usually, out on the right. He has a tendency to dither and then play it back to Cech. I'm not sure he is a natural leader.
-
ethicalstrategy reacted to dkw in Gary Cahill - PL CL FAC LC EL championHe is excellent on the ball when given time but as you say seems to get flustered when pressured. Also, when playing for England he doesnt seem to want to take control or lead which is why I'm not sure he's captain material.

ethicalstrategy reacted to just in Torres - The "Groundhog Day" ThreadIt's definately in my top 10 corner winning moments of all time.

ethicalstrategy got a reaction from mactheknife in Gary Cahill - PL CL FAC LC EL championPerhaps we should just call the thread
"Cahill can be excellent if played with the right partner and in the right system"
Last night he excelled. Against West Ham he didn't. Why? Because he didn't have to do the same job. He will never be as good as JT because he isn't as good a footballer. JT is massively underrated for his passing and overall technical ability on the ball.
If you need someone to defend deep and put himself on the line then Cahill is your man. Just don't give him the ball to feet, especially if he's under a bit of pressure.

ethicalstrategy reacted to Davey Baby in Gary Cahill - PL CL FAC LC EL championCahill will never be a top centre-half IMO. Good cover but not good enough to hold down a first-team spot in a top side.
He lacks composure on the ball though he is certainly a better "footballer" than most centre-halves. He is also quick. Not lightning but quick enough. He also has a good attitude, is totally committed and seems like a nice lad. He can shoot and he's a threat at set-pieces as we know. The trouble is his defending, it's not good enough. The best centre-forwards will undo him time and time again, particularly with their movement but also with their skill.
JT always makes his fellow centre-half look twice as good as he is. The trouble you've got is JT's not playing, hence Cahill/Ivan/Luiz look a bit out of sorts.
If the FSW thinks our best back four excludes our skipper he is even more incompetent than I thought.
If JT says he's fit enough he's fit enough. Points wins prizes and we need the points.

-
ethicalstrategy got a reaction from Davey Baby in Gary Cahill - PL CL FAC LC EL championThere is no way he is better on the ball than Terry. If you believe that then you clearly haven't been watching Terry play for the last 13 years.
-
ethicalstrategy got a reaction from Amputechture in Gary Cahill - PL CL FAC LC EL championI agree that he is quicker than JT - but then who isn't? Not sure about Iva, but that's not really the point. He doesn't have the pace or mobility of Carvalho or Gallas. A large part of our success defensively was down to having centre half who complimented each other rather than duplicated. Terry and Cahill and Ivanovic will never make a good centre half pairing which ever way you spin it.
You haven't seen forwards getting in behind him? I saw it on Sunday and there are lots of other occasions too.
I'm not saying he can't control a football. I'm saying that the opposition are quite happy to let him have the ball because they know he can't hurt them.
And, just to be absolutely clear, I'm not saying he's rubbish. I am saying that he wouldn't be my first choice centre back. He's excellent cover for JT. But I think both he and JT need a more mobile player alongside them.

I thought Cahill looked poor against City, he was caught out with a ball over the top on more than one occasion and had to make last minute blocks/clearances to make amends.
The trouble is, those last minute blocks and tackles look impressive and so it can look like he is playing well, my opinion is that he could have prevented a lot of those situations earlier.
-
ethicalstrategy reacted to just in Torres - The "Groundhog Day" ThreadI don't see him trying as a positive. I kinda of expect all our players to try every game.
To be fair, for the first time in a very, very long time he got himself forward into central positions to receive the ball and thereby offered himself as a target for his team mates to pass to. The fact that he then missed a number of very good chances is a seperate issue.
As has been said so many times before, he desperately needs to leave the club. Both for his sake and to allow CFC to move forward. The fans at the Bridge who showed incredible patience and supported him for so long have turned on him, and there is no way back from that.
