As Peter Kenyon disappears to spend more time polishing his Champions league runners up medal , the former Chelsea chief exectuive is in typically modest form claiming that under his stewardship the blues became a respected domestic club, then a respected european club.

Relatively successful ? Yes

Respected , NEVER .

It all depends on where you want the respect to come from . Opposition teams , managers , players ? and how you gain respect ?

Does respect come from the way a club represents themselves throught the media, transfer market , the running of the club , profile, marketing , treatment of fans or how your manager represents himself and the club. During Guss's reign I began to see a huge respect for us , ok maybe not everybody all of a sudden loved us , but his manner, personallity and his dignity went a long way to changing peoples short term opinion and i can bear witness to that being a Chelsea fan in Ireland . Hiddink was a top classs manager and a man who was very difficult to dislike even by c**ts such as Garth Crooks and John Aldridge. He was just a man who had a likeability factor and a charm and it was a time Chelsea FC was not the enemy anymore just because of him. Guus changed the way the media spoke about us , gone , [ok for a short time ] was the anti Chelsea bile written every Sunday by guttersnipe journous who preyed on our public profile regardless of results .

Guus for me was not only a great appointment as a manager , but a man with class , intelligence , charm and improved the profile of Chelsea FC even from opposition fans.

Definitely a scouse. We might not be respected by c**ts like him, but we are definitely feared by every opposition team, and thats all I care about.
