Apparently he turned us down as a 16 yr old, the story might have some legs if Arneson is still keeping track of him from years ago.

Barcelona starlet Thiago Alcantara turned down the chance to join Chelsea when he was 16 according to his successful father.

The son of 1994 world champion Mazinho has been linked to a host of clubs, following promising displays with Barca Athletic.

And his father has revealed that he opted against moving to Stamford Bridge in the recent past, as he wishes to make the step to the Blaugranas’ first team in the future.

“When Thiago turned 16 he received an important offer from Chelsea, but we turned it down because Barcelona's academy work is tremendous,†Mazinho told Ona FM.

“No doubt he is going nowhere. Many foreign teams are also following his young brother – Rafa Alcantara – but we are very happy with Barcelona’s work.â€
