Posted May 5, 201113 yr From the official site: Chelsea reserves head to Manchester City tonight with the possibility of wrapping up the club's first silverware of the season.Victory at Hyde FC's Ewen Fields would take Steve Holland and his youngsters top of the Barclays Premier Reserve League South, above Arsenal with the Gunners having already completed their fixture list. The trip to City comes four days before Wolves visit Stamford Bridge for the final reserve league game of the season, and Holland is eager to clinch the title as soon as possible. 'The sooner we can do it the better really, though I understand why some would want to do it at Stamford Bridge, but we'll be having a go on Thursday for sure,' Holland said. 'At the start of the season we didn't set out saying we have to win the reserve league this year, there is always a bigger picture supporting above with the first team and below with the youth team. 'The reserves is a vehicle for developing players and playing players that need playing, but when you get to the last handful of games and have a chance of being successful it's amazing how quickly the players and staff pick up on it. 'We've been aware for a few weeks we had a chance and I'm told it's 20-odd years since it last happened, so it's a nice challenge now and the players have some pressure to work under which will do them no harm.' Last week goals from Carl Magnay and Adam Phillip were enough to beat Aston Villa and take us into second place behind Arsenal, in an impressive display that continued the good form of recent months. 'We were pleased with the Aston Villa performance, particularly in the first half, and traditionally they have always been a difficult game for us at reserve level,' Holland said. 'To win and play well was satisfying because they won the league last year and are usually very strong, so it was a good indicator of the progress we have made. 'We expect Manchester City to be strong also. I spent 17 years in the north-west myself and whenever you play them at any level in development football they always have good players and good teams and I don't think this will be any different. 'But, we've got a good team with some good players ourselves and we are looking forward to it. We will take the same squad as for the last game against Villa, and the only absentee will be Nathaniel Chalobah who is now in Serbia with England Under 17s,' he explained. 'The players have hit a good level of consistency since the turn of the year, and the team has been a bit more settled because some players have gone out on loan. 'We've had a good season and only lost two in the last 10 or 11 games and both of those were affected by the Youth Cup a little bit.' Victory tonight will see us into the final against the northern champions, which will be either Manchester United or Blackburn Rovers. LINK

May 6, 201113 yr Author Final score Man City 4-0 Chelsea. Disappointing to say the least. Josh was mostly ineffective and as a whole the team were out muscled and outplayed. They improved a little in the second half but really can have no complaints about the result. I didn't actually get to see the entire game. Half time score was 2-0 but I missed both second half goals because my machine froze. Chelsea looked like they might be getting back in to it, so the 4-0 scoreline came as a nasty shock. Their number nine though: Not long after scoring City's first goal, he clattered Carl Magnay with his elbow. Magnay had to go off, returning some time later with a bandage round his head. Being generous you could class that one as accidental, if it wasn't that later in the game the same player smacked Magnay in the mouth with his elbow, again drawing blood. This one looked very deliberate. And what did the referee do? Nothing The number 9 was however booked for an embarrassingly theatrical dive. I forget his name, a big Italian unit. One to look out for in the future, and if he carries on in this vein, one to hold in utter contempt. Oh and the ref booked Josh for taking a free kick too early.
