He plays primarily as a left-winger but some of his best performances have come operating as an attacking midfielder running through the centre. Piatti has great vision and passing skills, and the ability to weave in and out of defenders that rivals his countrymen Messi and Aguero, despite not being quite as quick as either of them. For me, the floppy haircut, his diminutive stature and his penchant to create something for nothing either for himself or for others reminds me of one Gianfranco Zola. Unfortunately, while we were chasing Pastore, he signed for Valencia in July for just over 7 million euros. Reunited with the coach that shot him to prominence, Unai Emery, Piatti is definitely going to be one to watch this season.

That just hurt my feelings. You still haven't answered my question, why did you post it here? There's no rumour of him coming to Chelsea at all and he's just moved to Valencia.

August 6, 201113 yr I'm not usually the kind of dick that kicks off about that kind of stuff, but I came on here, thinking we're getting linked with this bloke I'd never heard of, clicked on it, player sounds good, new Gianfranco Zola etc, could sort out out creativity problems, then find out he's just signed for Valencia and isn't even linked with us. Was just kind of misleading with it being in the rumours part of the forum. Probably more out of frustration that we're nowhere near strenghening our first team, yet everyone seems to be signing all of these good players. Didn't mean to kick off.

I think this is spinning things a bit unfairly against Pastore. He scored 11 and created 5, according to Wikipedia (yes, I know, but it's easy to find). 8 goals and 4 assists is similar, as you say, but still noticeably worse. Beyond that, is La Liga a stronger league in the sense that would make those stats more meaningful? Barca and Real are obviously streets ahead of anyone in Serie A, but I wouldn't have said that teams 3-20 were particularly better than their Italian equivalents - or, consequently, that scoring/creating against the average Liga team said more than doing so against an average Serie A team. Not to say Piatti's not an interesting prospect, but there's a reason Pastore's rated more highly.

October 3, 201113 yr Author Totally changed the game for Valencia when he came on. Mark my words, it will be him at starting at the expense of Javier Pastore at World Cup 2014.

October 3, 201113 yr He certainly looked quality when he came on Wednesday night as well. Pastore wasn't brilliant I didn't think, he did take his goal well though. Just reading through all this thread again, maybe we need a thread for blokes who we reckon are decent. A sort of scouting thread, no need for there to be a link, but just players who a poster thinks could do a job. Instead of having a thread for Dries Mertens and Piatti, just one.
