Katon got a reaction from bogey77 in Torres - The "Groundhog Day" ThreadSomeone on the forums sat down and did a spreadsheet of all Torres' goals last season, and highlighted the ones which could be said to have come against good opposition, obviously including the ones against Shakhtar and Benfica.
There weren't that many of them. In particular, in league play, Torres scored just two goals against the top 7 . . . which matches Mata's tally against each of Man U, Spurs, and Arsenal, and is less than Lukaku managed as a last-day sub against Man U. So people are looking at the level of the opposition because that's been a real issue for Torres.
Torres' goal tally for us last season was basically down to him being a genuine threat against Europa League-level opposition. Now, that's legitimately useful; we've got a trophy that says so. However, given that he has shown himself back to scoring against minor teams, sticking four past Tahiti says absolutely nothing new. It's nice that he had a good game, but there's nothing there that would be beyond 2013 Not Good Enough To Be Our Number One Striker But Useful As Cover Torres.
The Nigeria goal's more impressive, but really nothing's happened at the Confederations Cup to suggest that Torres is moving off the level he was at last year. Good enough to be second- or third- string striker, but if we can find someone to take his wages off our hands we'd be just as fine going into the season with Mystery Striker X, Lukaku, and Ba.

Katon reacted to ForeverCarefree in Van Ginkel to ChelseaLukaku, KDB and Courtois seem to be developing nicely.
Chalobah had a great season at Watford and McEachran managed to get a whole lot of first team football under his belt finally. Thorgan Hazard earned his first international call up following his season loan and the likes of Kalas have had a productive season whilst on loan at Vitesse who always give lots of playing time to younger players who go on loan there.
Yes we have a lot of players out of loan but for the most part they are being handled well and if nothing else their value is increasing so that should they not develop to be good enough to be a part of our first team then they will at least be sold for a profit which helps to balance the books and looks good for FFP.

Katon got a reaction from just in Torres - The "Groundhog Day" ThreadI don't know about a blinder, but he had as much left in the tank today as any of our attacking players - which admittedly boils down to producing a couple of good moments. Congratulations, Nando, you've now reached the stage of looking better in a Chelsea shirt than Mateja Kezman or Claudio Pizarro, and I'll always be grateful for this goal and for a certain corner in Munich.
Now let's take this chance to end it on a high.

Katon reacted to Davey Baby in Eden Hazard - Chelsea LegendAbsolutely brilliant first season at Chelsea, which looks to be over, sadly.
The most talented player we've ever had I think and next season he will really come into his own.
22 years old, came from France, has adapted to the Prem with ease.
Big loss on Wednesday but I don't care, today was much more important for me and he got the assists.
Tweaked his hamstring and there's no way he'll be fit.
What a brilliant f**king player. He's got it all. Intelligence to boot.
Pace, strength, vision, skill, flair, touch, he's got a shot on him and he can finish.
Courage and temperament.
He's a gem. A bonafide gem.

Katon reacted to just in Torres - The "Groundhog Day" ThreadI don't see him trying as a positive. I kinda of expect all our players to try every game.
To be fair, for the first time in a very, very long time he got himself forward into central positions to receive the ball and thereby offered himself as a target for his team mates to pass to. The fact that he then missed a number of very good chances is a seperate issue.
As has been said so many times before, he desperately needs to leave the club. Both for his sake and to allow CFC to move forward. The fans at the Bridge who showed incredible patience and supported him for so long have turned on him, and there is no way back from that.

Katon got a reaction from just in Torres - The "Groundhog Day" ThreadThat depends on whether you think getting on the end of a cross and missing completely is better or worse than not making the run in the first place.

Now I know why Romeu left Barca for us ..
He wanted a CL winner's medal.
