  1. Rented Tower Heist on the cheap last night. It's a caper movie. Bunch of guys get together, plan a big crime, dash of humor to make it light. You know, like Ocean's 11, that sort of thing. Problem is, a caper movie needs very tight plotting. You have to be able to look back at it and see all the parts fit. In Tower Heist the plot isn't water-tight and the movie takes liberties with the laws of physics. Also, the relationships -- another foundation of a caper movie -- are a bit slapdash. Basically, Tower Heist is a movie let down by its writing. That's a pity because the villain -- played by Alan Alda -- is nicely unlikeable.
  2. Ramires didn't play Sunday. I would guess he was being rested so he could play the next two on the trot? I can't see Lamps playing. He just did the full 90 against Barca and QPR. He'll rest for the Cup Final, I reckon.
  3. I can see Mancini still bottling it. I can see him playing cautiously and failing to beat Newcastle.
  4. Did I get that right or did I get that right? That's right, I got that right!
  5. Sounds like a done deal. I like it. (Famous last words!) So who takes his job at West Brom? I wonder if it's time for Roberto Martinez to take a step up the Premiership ladder, albeit not a big one?
  6. That's a lot of money. Was it 3D? Falling asleep is never a good sign! I like Josh Whedon's Firefly series and movie, so I'm tempted to see this one.
  7. You can see why Chelsea like him. He has size, he's quick and aggressive and decisive. I know he had a chronic knee injury. Does anyone know what, specifically, was wrong? Was it cartilage or ligament? Cartilage never gets better but ligaments eventually heal.

Clearly, the away goal rule applies to the CL Final. Doesn't it? I'd not put Mata on the list. I know he took Frank's place at times this season. But he does the ballet dancer routine, and I think that's suicide. The men selected should all have the straightforward "pick your spot and bang it in" mentality.
  9. That's so silly! Four-wheel dive means there are four steering wheels, one for each seat. That way, people can take turns driving the car. Loads of fun!
  10. As for the Ferdinands, I repeat that something's wrong with their wiring. Anton never heard whatever it was that Terry said. So Anton and his crazy brother Rio are outraged based on the word of a lip reader who couldn't see Terry's entire sentence. Clearly they have a different agenda, one that has nothing to do with whatever Terry said. This controversy is a convenient opportunity for them to attack Terry.
  11. Isn't there only a single piece of evidence? A videotape? Interpreted by a lip reader? And half of what Terry said was obscured by a player's head, so we don't know everything that he said? Not a single person on the pitch heard whatever it was that Terry said? Not one? Perhaps there's another videotape from somewhere. But again, we're deciding a man's fate based on the questionable ability of a lip reader. It's surreal. I can't escape the feeling that the CPS bowed to public pressure and decided the safest way to handle a political hot potato was to let someone else -- a judge or a jury -- make their decision for them. Craven.
  12. Sometimes, old quotes are the best quotes. Sorry Baby!
  13. Good post. I was astonished at how the fans at Loftus Road treated Chelsea on throw-ins and the like. It was abusive and completely uncalled for. It's nice to hear from a QPR fan who sounds reasonable. All the best, mate.
  14. If United are trailing at the end of regulation, I guarantee 5 minutes of injury time.
  15. Sounds like a simple cross-sponsorship. Perhaps no money involved, just a trade: exposure on the car for exposure on Chelsea pitch-side signage and interview room background. I'm a huge fan of F1, always wondered why there wasn't a thread here about it. I like Sauber, a plucky little team that overachieves, given their limited resources.
  16. Capello had a poor World Cup, granted. But otherwise he's been very good for England.
  17. Good point about the 4-2-3-1. That business about AVB preferring Malouda to Kalou is nonsense, though. AVB didn't play either one of them. He stuck Mata on the left wing, where he wasn't as useful.
  18. Fellaini is the tits. Big, strong, swift, touch, intelligent, aggressive. I was thinking earlier this season how much I'd like to see him in a Chelsea shirt. To be honest, though, I'd feel terrible for Everton if they lost him. Too often, he's their best player.
  19. 45 for the final, less than 5 million extra for winning it. Strange, but that's what I read.
  20. It was worth 45 million. That's how much Chelsea get for making the CL Final.
  21. It's been a while since I've gone to the cinema. Every time I get the urge, I look at the listings and see nothing that's worth the (outrageous) price of admission. It's depressing. The only film that I wanted to see but missed, is the oddball Will Ferrell movie called Casa de mi Padre, done entirely in Spanish. A vanity project, but supposed to be funny. I have a lot of time for Ferrell's indy leanings since I saw the wonderful Stranger Than Fiction and the pretty decent Everything Must Go.
  22. I think I understood it when I watched it, and my conclusion was that it was more about style and being obtuse than it was being sincere.
  23. I did enjoy Sandro vomiting in the penalty box. Poor old Robinson had to smell that for the rest of the half. It's amazing that there are 5 games left in our season and we could win 4th, the FA Cup and the CL...or we could win nothing at all. Talk about down to the wire!
  24. Today's performance -- normally a let-down game -- was really impressive. I'm sure Anton and the QPR idjit fans had something to do with that. But still, what a showing. Long way of saying that di Matteo is making a really strong case for himself.
