Torres & Bosingwa vs Stoke

Featured Replies

Fernando Torres so far is our best player. Holding up the ball well, getting forward etc.

Its only HT but Stoke are playing well

José Bosingwa is terrible. Needs to improve his crossing badly

I thought Bosingwa had an outstanding match.

Stoke City are an excellent defensive team and Bosingwa caused a lot of problems. After his knee surgery and a poor comeback season and pre-season, the Stoke City match was the first hint that he's finally finding his game again.

They didn't really push him on defense, but he looked very quick and creative in Stoke's end. Solid match and a really pleasant surprise.

I'd rather save my scorn for Malouda and Kalou.

What exactly did Bosingwa do that was good?

He tried to dribble his fullback by kicking the ball beyond him. His crossing was poor. His passing was abominable, he could not get the ball straight let alone flat. His runs off the ball were into the centre and too predictable. Honestly, for all the flak Kalou and Malouda cop at least they have justified themselves at some point in their recent Chelsea career. Bosingwa has been nothing but a liability since 2008, he's been found out in the Premier League as a fullback with nothing more than a bit of speed and i've never seen a defender make so many ridiculous and ill-thought shots with his weaker foot.

I stand exactly half way between those comments.

I thought Bosingwa's display was almost enitrely average (average in this case meaning solid, not below par). About 6/10 if you want to put a number on it. Bright at times, wasteful at others. Serviceable, but should not be mentioned as a top player in that game.

That's how I saw it anyway. People are free to disagree of course. Each to their own

I actually thought Bosingwa had a mixed game, he was beating people for fun yeah but he lost possession many time and it could have been costly and his crossing was terrible still. But he looked better than any of his performances last season.

Torres was superb.

I'm mixed on Boss as well. He gets up the sideline well and can at times beat his defender, but his service into the penalty area is atrocious.

I know it's not his natural position, but I'd like to see Luiz given a look at RB. He seems to have the necessary ball skills to maintain possession and/or send in crosses in the final third, and he's a better defender than Bosingwa.
