Posted September 13, 201113 yr ......... on a night when the usual songs were sung about Jeeeerman Bombers and the RAF from Chelsea shooting them down, it was noticeable to me that we only had one aerial heavy bomber ourselves. The Wellington Ivanovich. The rest of our aerial assault seemed to consist of a Portugese bi-plane with faulty landing gear and a low-flying fibreglass glider from Spain, both of which succumbed easily under the pounding of the Jeeeeerman flak and a sortie of flying Fockers. Of course it isn't the first time we have had to go into battle with no air cover. We did, after all, have the best part of four years with Flying Officer 1st Class "Don't Jump" Jimmy leading our assault line. A man for whom the law of gravity seemed to weigh twice as heavy on his shoulders as for any other human being. In fact I read an article recently in which Wesley Snipers said that JFH was the inspiration behind the 1992 hollywood hit "Black Men Can't Jump". But then when Jimmy was finally melted down for spare parts we unveiled our new secret weapon......the F16 Drogba Typhoon. With a working ceiling height of 10 foot 6" and a payload to match, we finally ruled the skies. No opposing keeper, (or dam), was safe with our new Top Gun. Getting a corner with the F16 Drogba and the Hawker Harrier Terry thundering in to attack the target was as good as getting a penalty. Obviously you don't always need an aerial Assualt Brigade. Barcelona don't have one. But then, when their ground troops are as good as they are, there is no real call for aerial bombardments. However, until we train our new recruits to be as effective as Barcas, using the F16 aerial option occasionally would probably be handy. Especially as we, (at last!), seem to have two bomb aimers out wide who can laser guide the bombs to the target with pinpoint accuracy
September 13, 201113 yr You might have taken the metaphor too far just, but it made for a good laugh, particularly the bit about gravity weighing twice as much on Jimmy as a normal player! I was actually noting how few tall players we had as well. There was a time where Jose insisted on having four tall players in the team in every match, it was interesting to note how Ballack was still dominant in the air. Another attribute of his that was underrated. With Luiz looking to be the first choice partner for JT in the long run, I guess it is something we will have to get used too. As long as we don't fall into the Arsenal trap and start neglecting it for philosophical reasons. Also to be fair Branna is more Lancaster than Wellington though. No two engined rubbish with him, he's a four engined powerhouse. Doesn't quite have the awareness or defending guile of JT, but as far as aerial presence goes there aren't many better defenders in England or perhaps even in Europe.
