That pic is from the 85/86 club xmas card, Bates came on the track at half time v Everton & barked his orders for the shed to show their colours ect hence the scarf waving, to much like scouse behaviour if you ask me lol!

Great picture,you can even see Ken's electric 'cattle' wire on the top of the fencing.

Loved the geezer for firstly saving the club & then, fighting all comers for the sake of it's future.

But,being older & wiser, I know realise it was mostly all about Ken.

He really did 'hate' all that questioned him & as some of those questions came from the fans,it is logical to guess,in his mind, that it would be those who would be the first to suffer.

Then as now,I f**king hated that 'electric' fence,sounds like an idea from a concentration camp,where all are 'Judged'.

If today, I could ask him one question only,it would be just what the f**k were you thinking?....after all,there's kids in there,not all are looking for a tear-up.

I sometimes wonder, by turning the Shed into todays,small,castrated, shadow of it's former self, was it his final act of vengence?.

I still have the card! & a few others in a scrapbook.

Personally i didnt agree with everything Bates said or done, but facts are without him Chelsea FC wouldnt exist today, so for that alone i think he deserves a break for whatever mistakes he made in the past.

Regarding the electric fences, he was the one getting hit in the pocket when the club were fined for the fan's behaviour.....so you can sort of see his point. If you're gonna behave like animals, you're gonna get treated like one.

The electric fence gave us extra notoriety and a lot of publicity, it is part of our unique history.

Life is so boring now we win lots of trophies and thats about it, maybe we should lobby for a new one or maybe club together for a "We loved our electric fence" banner.

There was a pic of our support at WBA with "Electric Chelsea" wrote on it, i'll try & dig the pic out over the weekend.

the electric fence era was a bit of a con basically it was the same used on one of his farms and nearly every other farm in the country roughly about 12 volts gives you a medium jolt you would also have had to be on top of the fence to contact it

nothing like an electric fence in a pow camp or nazi concentration camp

when we was kids in the country we used to dare each other to touch them

Had a lot of time for Ken because he did save the club ! But he did let himself down over Matthew Harding (RIP)
