Opposition players you loved to hate or hated to love?

Featured Replies

All the John Terry criticism from anyone who isn't a Chelsea fan and likewise criticism and booing of many great footballers for the only reason being their talent or success made me think of opposition players who have had a good relationship with the Stamford Bridge fans?

Any nominations?

One that springs to mind, though it might just have been a deluded teenage memory, was Ian Wright of Arsenal who seemed to thrive on the chants against him by Chelsea fans and often came up to the benches where I sat pretending he couldn't hear us or smiling and waving. He seemed to have a great relationship with the Chelsea fans and both he and the fans enjoyed playing with each other... unless I've romanticised something!

Any other suggestions of opposition players who you are the crowd have had a soft spot for or friendly banter with?

Hated Billy Bremner but mellowed after a while he was a tough little nut and I grew to have a bit of respect for his steel.
