It's actually an old nursery rhyme. I believe it was the late Micky Greenaway who first sung it at a Chelsea game.

You might be interested to know that "One man went to mow" was first sung on the way out to Sweden in 1981 for a pre-season tour. Mick Greenaway (who else?) had a Wally Whyton tape with him with some kids songs on it. We all joined in as we thought it was funny. We continued to sing it in Sweden and when we came home we used to sing it a bit in the pubs around Chelsea and it grew from there.

The arm movements were slightly different in it's early days. The best display of this was at Wolves in Jan 83 (when Colin Pates scored one of the best ever Chelsea goals). We sat in the seats and stood up to do "one man".

At the end of each verse it went "and his dog (called Spot)", - when we sang "called spot" we jolted out our left elbows out at right angles. I remember meeting Cathy (Chelsea regular) up there - she had sat in the seats opposite our mob and told me how impressive it was.

Used to love going to away games and waiting for this song, I would look around the ground and wait for the end, to see how many supporters we had around the ground, some of them would pop up in the most dangerous parts of the ground.
