He needs to start scoring goals. Otherwise he's never going to get the recognition he deserves.

I think he should have been the player of the year this year since he succesfully replaced Terry and Carvanho and was great all around.

And who can forget the goal he rocketed against Arse this season.

Remember anyone from the recent past who won it and didn't score exceptional amount of goals from whatever post he played.

PFA PLAYER OF THE YEAR

1996: Les Ferdinand (Newcastle)--dont know about that

1997: Alan Shearer (Newcastle)

1998: Dennis Bergkamp (Arsenal)

1999: David Ginola (Tottenham)--didn't even remember this happening

2000: Roy Keane (Man Utd)

2001: Teddy Sheringham (Man Utd)

2002: Ruud van Nistelrooy (Man Utd)

2003: Thierry Henry (Arsenal)

2004: Thierry Henry (Arsenal)

2005: John Terry (Chelsea)---yes, exceptional amount of goals from his post.

2006: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)

2007: Ronaldo(Manure)

I got the inmpression Makelele was referring to Chelsea's player of the year rather than PFA. Personally PFA player of the year means very little to me. English football, apart from rare exceptions (Keane and JT), is utterly blind to players who don't score goals or have fancy flicks. It has beena failing on the part of the English game for years.

Ah, ok. Well I agree with Makelele. It's either Drogs or Essien. I hope next year some of our other talents rise in to another level, or in level they should be. I'm positive they will.
