drjonesy1994
https://talksport.com/football/1296726/manchester-united-ronaldo-rule-wage-salary-cap/ United are looking to introduce a maximum salary cap of £200k per week. No new contracts will be negotiated for any higher than that, and players on more than that currently would be expected to take a pay cut when it comes to being offered a new contract, or will be allowed to leave on a free or sold if they don't agree too it. I think it is a good idea in practise, but I think it only works if every club does similar and it is something that is enforced by the FA. If United are the only club doing this, it means they may miss out on key transfer targets if other clubs are able to offer more money than United are prepared too. I think something does need to be done to help cutback the ridiculous wages and transfer fee's that have taken over the game in the last 5-7 years, and it is something we have definitely been guilty of both in the old and current regime. As I say though I don't see it working if it's just one club doing it. I think a rule needs to be applied to every club, or none at all. If every club has this rule in place then you wouldn't get players demanding ridiculous wages as they know there's a limit on what the club can pay, and from the clubs point of view I suppose they would only be willing to make sure that their 'key players' are earning at the top end of the bracket. Maybe a rule would be something like you are only allowed a maximum of 5 players at anyone time earning the highest amount. I think it is a good idea by United, and if it works for them then other clubs may end up doing something similar. I can't see any obvious negatives if this was to be implemented across the board but interested to see what others think of this idea. CaitlinCFC
Good idea but it should be universal to every team at the same time.
strider6004
I can't see it working as normally clubs in cities will need to pay more to offset the impacts of city congestion otherwise everyone would likely try and play for clubs like Barcelona or Valencia on the coast in warm climates.
