If any manager deserved time to turn it around it was him.
I also understand the criticism thrown at TT, his activity in the transfer market was pretty bad, Conte levels bad. He could've done with a good DOF behind him because his coaching was excellent.
But the criticism aimed at him is so over the top on this forum. A good section of the fanbase never gave him a chance because he took over from Lamps. But TT will probably be the last elite manager we'll have for a long time with the way it's looking. It could be years before we're looking at a top 4 challenge again, it's even possible we'll never reach those heights again.

And he got the club.
It wasn't perfect and towards the end it was somewhat difficult which was unsurprising given everything that was going on but this is how Stamford Bridge felt about him 7-8 games before it was all over.
I think it says it all.
Even the Nike advert is fitting. We were never done under Tuchel.
We are fully done under Boehly/Potter/Poch.

drjonesy1994 got a reaction from strider6004 in The return of the Super League...No chance English clubs sign up again in my opinion. They all signed a document last time saying that if they tried it again they'd get a 30 point deduction and a £30m fine. Plus with the backlash last time they'd be wise not to cross that line again.
This has purely come back again because Barcelona, Madrid and Juventus can't compete with the top English sides financially anymore, and they basically want a quick way to guarantee income.
The rest of Europe had to sit and watch when Madrid and Barca were hoovering up the best players in the world, now that's not happening anymore they're crying that they can't compete with English sides financially. Tough. Let's not forget that Madrid recently offered in excess of €120m for Mbappe when he had 6 months left on his contract at PSG...

drjonesy1994 reacted to Luca Vialli in Manchester Utd v Chelsea (PL) Wed 6th December 2023 20:15 GMTWolves ran through that Utd midfield for fun and gave them no end of problems... what do we do? Somehow give them all of the play in our defensive third and let them have 28 shots at goal with 9 on target. How the how did we do that to what is probably the worst Utd side we've seen in twenty years with a manager who's supposedly fallen out with half of the team.
Everyone should be utterly ashamed of that 'performance' I was so confident we'd actually do something positive and we do the complete opposite against a bunch of wasters.
Piss piss poor.

drjonesy1994 reacted to Gem in Our Legend CocoThank you to Mod for reaching out and letting me know the sad news. I don’t venture on here much anymore but there were years when I posted nearly every 2 minutes, and I remember coco fondly from that time. I couldn’t quite remember if he was one of us old (aged) CSR lot but I know he was part of the much loved furniture. I always enjoyed his posts and opinions.
Sincere condolences to his friends and family.

drjonesy1994 reacted to Mod in Our Legend CocoAn extremely hard post to write here on the forum, but our legend and moderator Coco passed away this morning.
He's a private person and only shared details of his illness with me and Loz recently when he knew the outlook wasn't good for him.
His son kindly logged in to his account to share the news.
Coco has always been around on the forum and before that, many years ago on the CSR Forum. I will miss him around here terribly, the place won't feel the same. He loved it here and at times, it felt like he ran things on his own. He even requested to move into a different member group when the time came. He will be truly missed and our thoughts go out to his family.
I would say sleep well coco, but you won't be sleeping and will be powering up Motorbikes on the other side.

Hardly a hot take that manager who's won league titles and international tournaments would likely be successful, and a rookie coach with no trophies likely wouldn't be at Chelsea - especially when most people on this forum alone expected Potter to fail.
That particular analysis from EBL seems to use a lot of current tactical jargon to boost credibility at the expense of evidence. Conceding the ball to Fulham's centre-backs is not a problem, and one only needs to hark back to commentary about our 'suicidal', disorganised pressing under Lampard (x2) and Potter to see the potential consequences of adopting EBL's suggested strategy.
What they propose would be to effectively concede space on the wings in order to maybe have a chance at closing down a centre back. That's not optimal. That would have Gallagher and Broja pushing up and all it would require is the CB to play a quick ball to the wings to break the press. It completely vacates the centre, leaving the pivot midfielders 3v2 or 4v2 at times. We saw this time and time again under Lampard and Potter.
In any case, Broja's goal came from one of our players robbing a CB, so I'm failing to see how the proposed tactic would make that any more likely. At 0:34-0:36 you can see how the congested centre allows Caicedo to put in a block and stop Fulham progressing through the heart of the defence. Hell Tim Ream even throws his hands in the air Hasselbaink-style in frustration at not being able to break the press in the centre. In the end Fulham's attack relies on a Hollywood pass to a wide player, who then has to beat a fullback and cross into a set defence. It's completely turned a dangerous situation into a sub-optimal one for Fulham.

drjonesy1994 reacted to Sconnie Blue in Don't be harsh on Mount - JTI'm getting annoyed of this ongoing narrative "There is more to the story than what's been told".
What does John Terry, Matt Law, Alex Goldberg, and Felix Johnston know about this Mount situation that we don't? Tell us what this other side of the story is if you're continuing to defend Mount. If you aren't going to reveal what you know, then don't hint at it? Simple.
What we do know is that:
-Mount turned down £200kpw with options to extend.
-Had his PR leak to Romano that he wasn't re-signing so Chelsea would lower his transfer valuation to United.
- Gave the most fake and scripted goodbye that looked like an ISIS video.
- Called United "Home" day one with his mug father.
WHAT IS THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY?

drjonesy1994 reacted to dkw in Todd Boehly & Co buy Chelsea FCI said when VAR first appeared my worry was they would use it to hunt for reasons not to give a goal, and thats pretty much where we are now. Spending 2/3/4 minutes trying to find the tiniest little excuse to rule out a goal, its so much worse than just playing without it.

Roman spent shed loads as well on absolute dross (some with potential that turned to be dross like Havertz or Pulisic) and still looked bang average since Conte’s PL title, or at least not able to compete consistently at high standards. The new owners have come and made changes, we can’t judge if they are working out just yet. And, more to the point that I was making, the drastic change has not been other than putting in a footballing structure, which we were crying out for since Emenalo (come on Goal, the arguments in here and among the match going fans about Marina being the one in charge coupled with Romans whim were deafening) and selling a whole lot of players that should have not been at Chelsea for the last couple of seasons at least. Drastic change? Maybe, but it was really needed.
-
Remember the Conte season, everyone had written us off early then too, we got battered by Arsenal and Conte changed it all. We then went on to win the league, anyone giving up on this season after 4 games is a muppet.
-
As someone who was 7 when Roman bought us, already a Chelsea fan following in my Dads footsteps, I have only really ever known the good times. Whilst we have had off seasons in the past, the sanctions placed on Roman and the club was the first time I have ever faced the prospect of losing the club I love so much. You see it happen to lower league teams and you just don't expect it to happen to a huge club like ours. Whilst there were clearly many suitors, there was a distinct possibility that it could have all caved in or that we could have been sold to some blood sucking leeches who just wanted to run us into the ground.
You can say what you want about the new owners, that they are playing football manager, that they are clueless and that they have no idea what they are doing. All I really care about is that I truly believe they want us to succeed. Yes, probably because they eventually want to sell for a profit, but they want us to win. Roman was a freak of an owner. The money he put in and what he did for us wasn't going to be replicated, so I will happily back the new owners as long as they continue to act in a way that suggests that they care about the club.
The project is clearly off to a rough start, but as many have said there were already cracks showing before they came. I definitely agree that the concept of just bulk buying young talent and hoping they will all form a super team in the future is flawed. But we are where we are. We have owners happy to invest and try new things to get us back to the top. Of course, this doesn't entitle them to blind loyalty from the fans, but I find it ridiculously difficult to take too much of an issue when they have invested as aggressively as they have in a project they must believe in.

Sacked Tuchel - Was harsh at the time but his signings and talent ID were embarrassing and the football he was playing at the end was poor. Probably could have lasted another month.
Sacked Potter - Gave him too much time if anything. Under the previous ownership that everyone loved he'd have been sacked about 3 months earlier and praised for it. We wanted a long term manager, Potter wasn't the man for that in hindsight. Seem to have got it right with Poch though.
1 billion squad - Money is irrelevant. I don't think its disjointed at all, we have players that fit positions now. No more Havertz-esque players that don't fit a role anywhere on the pitch. We have a proper midfield, actual wingers (not like Ziyech), we just need a GK now. Who knows, maybe Petrovic is the man.
Less competitive - We've not been competitive in the league since Conte. I'll take two or three years out of Europe to actually challenge for a title again, rather than be fighting for top 4 and praying we have a cup run every other year.
We laughed at Arsenal for the first 2 and a half years Arteta was there, i see us as in the same limbo right now. Good performances on the pitch with bad results. If we're honestly still 11th in March, then sure eyebrows will be raised. We're 4 games in to the season and are right up there with Arsenal and City in all important metrics (ball progression, expected goals against, expected goals) we just haven't finished the chances. People just don't have patience anymore and have been spoiled by Roman's first 15 years at the club. Christ, it took City a decade to solidify their dominance in the league and build a multi-club model that actually works. We've spent 12 months laying the foundations.
