November 26, 20232 yr Terry was, of course, a Chelsea great before he went on to other things. In those far off days he played with a 4 on his back, which meant he was a right-half … simple. But then Johnny Hollins broke into the team and he was also a right half! What to do? So TV gets the number 10 shirt … but doesn’t that mean he’s an inside left?! Bewildering in those days before a midfielder had been invented! two other things I remember - we had a free kick against a wall … Terry pretends to be simply pacing out the distance when he receives the ball before their defence has got their act together and he scores … of course! The other thing is him hiding behind the referee, yes, hiding, as they attack and then he jumps out from behind the ref like an ambush and wins the ball! RIP Terry …

According to fable Tommy Doc thought he was getting too big for his boots and undermining his authority. Ron Harris had a problem with him-,he was the de facto head honcho who decided where the lads were going for a drink etc ( when he f**ked off to Spurs Chopper remarked I can’t see Dave Mackay and Co being ordered around by this upstart)….Can’t remember where I learnt this stuff- possibly Ossies book with Martin King. RIP Terry Venables
