World Cup 2026
The skinny German, vowed to play to the country’s strength, and play the game at Premiership tempo. Not possible in Mexico City ( our finest moment despite the heat) however other games in less testing circumstances we were no way near to high tempo. A grain of truth to his statement about possession football not being in our DNA, however neither is self inflicted pressure defending

World Cup 2026
Should never have defended a one goal lead. Defending a two goal lead with 25 minutes to go even risky given Argentinas comeback record. That’s 12 World Cups I’ve seen us in now. Not one final reached.

Ken Bates RIP
Think it was sh*t or bust, when we invested in half a dozen new players start of 83-84 Season, however where did that money come from; was it Batesey’s cause we were poor as the church mouse at that time

Ken Bates RIP
Wrote a complaining letter to him, and received a reply, in typically blunt fashion. Bumped into him at airport shortly after he’d sacked Gullit; was happy that he’d lost first game at new club. ( Newcastle) His programme notes were good value. During hooligan years he made out they were a tiny minority, when in actuality they were a significant chunk. He was very litigious. Many thousands flowed into CFC coffers consequent to unproven allegations. God Bless You Ken

Briefly worked on its refurbishment sometime in late 90’s. Iconic building- looks a little bit the airport control tower in an episode of Thunderbirds

A pretty penny. Perfect place to live. Exercise the dog in Brompton Boneyard. Fox as your local. Leave your front door twenty minutes before kick off.

Always thought that if my numbers come up in the lottery, will have one of pastille coloured cottages on Billings St as a London Pied a Terre. Wasn’t Greenaway brought up there?

World Cup 2026
I’m 60 now. Don’t remember 66. We lack a midfield maverick that can unpick a defence, however we’re big, strong and mostly effective. Germany had success without a mercurial Modrik like figure. Here’s hoping…

Big Steve Wicks. Bit of a unit. Cross between Micky Droy and David Hasselhoff. Moved on to QPR, as were many at the time, along with Palace

Marc Cucurella
Take the transfer money. I doo like him. When he loses the ball he’s terrier like trying to regain it. Also appreciate he’s a bit different- hair large part of it. Full backs not generally the tallest of players, however he’s particularly diminutive, which doesn’t do us any favours at set pieces. He’s not put on a growth spurt and get taller a twenty something…

Leeds only obvious comparison. Haven’t crunched numbers however suspect we would make their predicament look like small change.

Good post, however not sure about strong core. During our glory years that was Peter Cech, JT, Frank Lampard, and Drogba. All dependable and leaders. The current crop resemble a load of tea ladies in comparison…..Then again reckon that the general mindset of players has altered over last decade or so. Mollycoddled, no backbone

RIP Bobby Tambling
Pretty much every picture he’s got a smile on his face. Very gracious man when his records got overtook decades later. Absolute legend

Haven’t been to Forest too many times. Think in was Xmas 1996 or thereabouts. All their young men on the stand on the left. Left the ground, walking towards car. A fellow Chelsea fan thought we were Forest and starched my mate out. Bad day all round

New Micky Droy tribute on YT (no, he's not dead)
He was huge..Six foot four and 15 odd stone. Joe Corrigan was the only one that close to him in terms of size, out of players at the top level

Eight years ago Workd Cup. Was one of our most effective players. Always had the piss taken out of him due to his unusual running style. He’s only 31 now. Should be tail end of his peak years. Who knows….- Raheem Sterling signs for Chelsea

Wow. Always enjoyed reading your witty, balanced posts. Am I an expert in mental health? Good question, deserves an answer; there’s a strong theme of mental instability on my mothers side of the family. My Grandad, partly due to an extremely rough WW2, was one of the first people in this country to have a full frontal lobotomy. An ex partner of mine was sectioned. Sometimes think I’m half barmy, however we’ve all got a slender contract with sanity. I’m entitled to my opinion, as are you. Take good care you silly sounding twat- Raheem Sterling signs for Chelsea
