Based on current form at domestic level Beckham easily merits his place in the squad and he merits it a lot more than many of the others. Players should always be selected on form and not on historical factors. Some will say Beckham has benefited in the past from being selected when his form didn't merit it and there is some justification for that argument (certainly in terms of a first team position rather than just a squad position) however if you do make that argument then it would be hypocritical to now deny him a place in the squad because at the moment he does merit it.
