IF WE WIN IT THIS YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! icon_redface.gificon_redface.gif

today should have been 3 points, fulham at home should have been the game to bounce back , maybe just to even score a goal...if nothing is done soon, this section of the forum will be renamed "UEFA CUP"

I think we are over doing it a bit. The players were pretty good yesterday, we dominated the match, we still have a very strong squad of players. We just need a decent manager to come in and fix things up tactically and we will comfortably finish top 4 and hence requalify for the Champions League.

I'll agree with some of that. We do need someone who knows what he is doing, but the players were not good yesterday. There is still plenty of talent but our starting midfield yesterday was not going to frighten anyone - Cole-Maka-Sidwell-Kalou. Compare to Maka, Essien, Lampard or Robben, Essien, Lampard, Duff.

The problem is that something needs to be done now if we are to get to the 4th spot. I we wait until January then we will be too late.

We considering Essien and Lampard are both out through injury, I think we aren't that bad off. Our squad isn't a bad squad, we still have alot of talent. Could we do with another creative player or two?, sure. But we have the talent to finish at the very least 4th this season. If we don't its because the players are underperforming due to other factors like poor coaching/management and an unsettled club.

The dirty rotten Scousers wont it with a team that was shi*e !!! We MUST have a chance

I think we can all think back to the squad we had for season 06/07..............

Which squad do you beleive is better, the 06/07 squad (I don't think we bought or sold anyone during the mid-season transfer window) or the one we started this season with (07/08 and are stuck with at least until the mid-season transfer window).

I'd argue our current team is better than that one, and if not, it's a tight race seeing as most of the names are the same.

Well the 06/07 team finished 2nd in the league (only a few points behind winners Man Utd), reached the Champions League semi-finals and won the carling and FA cup double.

Anyone want to stand up now and suggest why our current squad (which is arguably better than the 06/07 one) is going to struggle to finish 4th, get knocked out at the group stages of the Champions League and win no silverware (perhaps getting the Carling Cup if we are lucky)?

Surely some of the pessimism is getting a little overdone.

1. Because many squads have been improved upon while we are "going backwards".

2. Because the manager is important; the players cannot just go out and do what they like on the pitch and expect to win - at least, not most of the time.

3. Because Jose's exit has hit the players hard and they are struggling to get back their form/confidence.

On paper, I would of course expect us to finish in the top four. I'd also expect us to be challenging for the title, but THAT doesn't look likely does it?

The thing is, I believe for us to be back in the "hunt", we're going to need a new manager now. The longer we go with Grant in the hot-seat, the less likely whoever does eventually come in will be able to turn things around quickly enough.

The manager is important, you know.

Cheers,

Butch
