youlots
Got up for the tie; when it happened the commentators were all reaching for the rule book & all agreed that when it hit the ball of paper it should have been a deadball situation. But the ref & the limesman missed it and Gravgaard just looked rueful & stoic & made no complaint to the ref whatsoever! (I thought at the time - you wouldn't fit in at Chels Gravgaard!). Probably worth having a look at a hamburger site to see how there coping in the face of one of their own unconsciously sabotaging their own team. The resultant goal really turned the tie. Poor old Martin Jol - bested by Bremen in both the cup and the UC semi.
Valerie
Totally justified: just imagine the paper cuts, not to mention the damage a dangerous veggie like celery could do!
TheWestwayWonder
That is riddiculous. Shame the player didnt protest, but the lino and ref should have done something. To go out like that........ugh Eventhough they didnt make the final, Jol has been so good at Hamburg, despite them losing three of their best players. Its incredible how he has got his team playing so well as unit. Hopefully there is some investment and they can really build on what they have to challenge Munich down to the wire next year. Despite having been at Spuddies, I like Jol and I like to think he smirks everytime he looks over and sees them midtable while Hamburg are vying for the title
paulo
Despite having been at Spuddies, I like Jol Me too, seems like a top man with a good sense of humour. I remember a few years ago before the home tie against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, I was drinking outside a pub with a friend on the Fulham Road when we saw him walking down the street towards us. My friend shouted "Oi Martin, come to see what European football looks like!", Jol just smiled and nodded, then wished us luck and an enjoyable game. A Tottenham manager on his own outside a pub full of Chelsea fans and he wasn't intimidated at all and took all the banter in his stride, good on him.
