Ruh Buh Juh
It's brilliant! Reccommend it to anyone, on a different level to American Idiot, but guaranteed it won't sell as well.
Gem
Agreed, a completely different level. It's evolved from what American Idiot is. The unfortunate thing is that fans of that album won't have evolved with them, and will still be stuck on the rock opera phase. Shame really, truly talented band and will be going to see them at The O2 in October. RBJ, am willing to discuss anything Green Day :P whats your favourite album out them all? Maksimov
Their career really needed a record like American Idiot. They peaked around the time they released Dookie and then it was just slowly going downhill for them right until American Idiot. I used to listen to them as a teenager, but got bored with them after Dookie and the massive airplay killed the record(Dookie) for me as you couldn't really go anywhere without hearing the singles that year. American Idiot is not something I'd buy myself, but at least there are some memorable songs on it. I couldn't name a single song between Dookie and American Idiot...that's how forgettable those records have been to me. The new one sounds ok, but I've just heard a few songs. Nothing too exciting, but I wouldn't change the channel if I heard it on the radio. Edited May 20, 2009 by Maksimov
Gem
My older cousin had Nimrod on tape and whenever we'd go over there he'd have it on. I was only 9/10 at the time but I still love the album today - Hitchin' A Ride, Redundant, Scattered, All The Time, Worry Rock, King for a Day and my personal favourite - Uptight. Good memories. Mak, you've missed out on some great songs in that case - Brain Stew and Good Riddance to name two, and they're just the singles. Do you like 1,039/Smoothed & Kerplunk? Tim
Dookie was the first non-pop album I ever had. Bought it on tape and listened to it until it broke. I agree the following ones weren't as good, but I did like Insomniac - it was just less commercial than Dookie, and the band made a conscious decision to go down that route, so they didn't 'sell out.' Still love Geek Stink Breath, Brain Stew etc and saw them about 5 times during the Insomniac tour and the next one, so have very very fond memories. It's a shame they are now so big that they play the 02 etc, as they really are much more suited for the Astoria (RIP) and Brixton Academy. Re the new album, haven't heard it yet, although I wasn't that impressed by the single. sounds a bit 'Green Day by numbers' to be honest. I really liked American Idiot as they actually did something very ballsy and different, which was much needed and i hope that this new one has continued to invent. Songs like Basket Case, When I Come Around, Welcome To Paradise are just awesome. But American Idiot and Warning get mentions. Letterbomb + Homecoming my two favourites from American Idiot, and then Minority + Castaway are my favourites from Warning. I'm lucky enough to be going to see them in Birmingham in October :)

I agree about Know Your Enemy, should've released a different song off it. 21st Century Breakdown would probably've made more sense as it's the title of the album and a brilliant song. But the new album does have some stand-out songs. My favourites being Viva La Gloria, Before The Lobotomy, Peacemaker, 21 Guns and Christian's Inferno, but I love every song on the album :D
Gem
21st Century Breakdown, Know Your Enemy, 21 Guns, Before The Lobotomy and Peacemaker are my favourites :D Are they playing in Birmingham before or after London? Friday the 23rd I'm off to see them, and of course it's all about standing. Nimrod is my favourite, but I guess I have a lot of memories attached to that. Never really warmed to Shenanigans, but I guess that was a B-Side compilation like International Superhits was A, still good though :D

After London, I'm on the 27th, but sadly, all the standing tickets sold out in like 10 minutes so I have a seat. Ahh well, Green Day are one of my favourite bands (GD and Sum 41) so I'll go anywhere! And besides, me and my friends are going to try and sneak into the standing I don't really like Shenanigans either, besides Ha Ha You're Dead! Gem
Sum 41 :D Just heard that Blink 182 did a come-back gig in America, knew they couldn't stay mad at each other for long :D I can't stop singing Song of the Century at work, must be getting on someone's nerves by now. Good idea about getting down to the standing bit, I got O2 priority so as soon as they went on sale I got them.

And yeah, Blink 182 announced a comeback gig a few months ago, and in all fairness Angels and Airwaves were awful, and +44 only released one song so they were going to get back together eventually! I saw Sum 41 in Cardiff and they were brilliant so I recommend them! Hahaa, I've got the beginning of Viva La Gloria! stuck in my head atm :D
Gem
I bought +44's album and was quite unimpressed. Didn't hear anything of Angels and Airwaves, mainly because I always preferred Mark. I was total oblivious to their come back, a new album hopefully on the way and then a tour :P Now it's Christians Inferno... woooooooooooah hehe. What other bands are you a fan of? Barn
Green Day probably rates as one of the top 5 gigs I've ever seen, it was at the Reading Festival in a side tent when they were far to popular for it. American Idiot for me was a bunch of idiots trying to get political when they should have left that arena well alone, I don't know the new album but don't hold out too much hope! I'd be delighted if it's a return to former glory though.

I'd be delighted if it's a return to former glory though. agree totally- at their best they are a bit silly and irreverent- didn't like american idiot much (though I was happy to see them back being successful), they're not radiohead... they're a pop-punk band with stress on pop. I saw them last about 6-7 years ago, was one of the most fun gigs I've been to. was right between warning and american idiot so probably the biggest dip in popularity since dookie, but it was great fun. always thought green day's popularity was responsible for loads of terrible pop bands like blink 182, bowling for soup, etc etc... sum 41 were awful as I remember (aside from fat lip which was like a decent beastie boys track).. the only redeeming feature blink 182 had was the drummer who was very good. but in general I hate the pop punk subgenre. nasal american pie three chord tripe with frontmen whining about how no-one understands them, skateboards and hair straighteners. just as tediously dull and tired as mainstream rap. green day are the exception because billie joe armstrong can write genuinely good pop songs, they can all play, and they have a sense of humour that extends beyond the musical equivalent of jackass. Ruh Buh Juh
Not amused you're shunning Sum 41, G4. Shame on you. Gem - Green Day and Sum 41 are way above everyone else I like, Blink 182 behind. I like Reel Big Fish more for their comedy than music, but a few of their songs are good, Lostprophets are pretty good, (thanks to the Shed Enders) and The Gaslight Anthem are very good. And then it's just songs here and there by whoever that I catch on TV or get recommended to me. What about you? And for me it's Peacemaker, and I'm sure it will be for a long, long time :D
Gem
Of this genre - Green Day are heads above, but also love Blink 182, Bowling for Soup, The Offspring and in a less pop-punky sense, but kinda the same - Less Than Jake (they're more SKA). But I have a mix, from Dolly Parton to Judy Garland, Bob Seger to Buddy Holly, Journey to AC/DC, ABBA to The Clash... if it's not R'n'B or silly manufactured music, I tend to like it. Peacemaker :D 21 Guns has suddenly shot to my most played. Was sitting here reading the lyric book earlier and when I first heard "wooooah, Christians inferno" I thought they were saying "woooooah, this ship has burned down"... its bloody obvious listening to it now that they clearly aren't! Just reading some of the bonus pre-order iTunes tracks were, would have liked to have heard those :( Edited May 21, 2009 by Gem
Mod
Saw the Green Day album the other day, but thought would wait a few days to see some reviews. I think you've sold it to me Gem and RBJ, will give it a go.

"if it's not R'n'B or silly manufactured music, I tend to like it." - Nice one!! It's so annoying when people look down on you when you play a good song on your phone or something then they return with Cascada. What the hell springs to mind. Yeah I heard about them, but I don't use iTunes so I missed out on them anyway haha Did you catch the 2 Non-Album tracks that came with the Know Your Enemy single? "Light On" and "Hearts Collide"? They're both good, but Hearts Collide is better! Good man, Mod, good man :( Edited May 21, 2009 by Ruh Buh Juh
Gem
:D Nooooo :( I just bought the single of Play.com when it was released, will have a look and see if iTunes are selling them. Yessss iTunes have them, at 99p each. I already bought the two non-album tracks - A Quick One While He's Away and Another State of Mind for 99p. Another near £4 on four songs. Oh well, it's worth it :( will download them tomorrow and give you my reviews. Someone at my work had a song by a Ne-Yo on their phone. I was genuinely ignorant to who or what a Ne-Yo was. My "whats a Ne-Yo" was welcomed with vacant looks. Apparently he's a singer, and after listening to one song I turned it off. No thanks.
Ruh Buh Juh
Nice one :D I haven't got the other two, will have a look around tomorrow! Oh god, I hate Ne-Yo. I hate all that type of music cause it's all about getting with some amazingly hot girl who's had so many plactic surgeries you can't see any natural skin anymore and yet they're still amazing. Either that or losing that girl, and complaining about it. Stupidity.
blueday3
I saw Blink 182 and Green Day in concert together once it was pretty awesome. I agreed with G4's beginning part, American Idiot was too political for me, but despite the two guitarists lack of guitar talent, I still love Blink, plus Travis is incredible! Gem
Not long till I go see them live on Friday 23rd October  very very excited. People may hate what they've become, what they sing about and everything else, but they're bloody brilliant and I love 'em. Hoping they perform American Eulogy, can't find a set list for their tour so far anywhere on the Internet. There is an outside chance they could play Uptight (Nimrod) or Worry Rock... but there's more chance of Fernando Torres washing his hair :( 21 Guns is gonna sound awesome live :D Edited September 27, 2009 by Gem
Oblivion
Actually, I feel that the album before American Idiot, Warning I think it was called, already bore the matured mark fully-fleshed out in American Idiot. I haven't had a listen to the latest album, but I just hope that the band doesn't get defined by teh success of just that one album (no matter how good it may have been). Maksimov
I just hope that the band doesn't get defined by teh success of just that one album (no matter how good it may have been). If that were to happen, wouldn't that one album be Dookie instead of American Idiot? As big a success as American Idiot has been, Dookie is still the album that made them popular.
