Sawyer blow for Shrimpers

06 Aug 2009 - 15:46:47

Southend United midfielder Lee Sawyer has been diagnosed with a fractured rib after scan revealed the problem.

He was injured in the friendly at Chelmsford Town last month and the 19-year-old, who is on loan from Chelsea, is facing a spell on the sidelines.

"We don't know yet how long he will be out for until Chelsea's medical team take a look but he won't be involved on Saturday," manager Steve Tilson told the club's official website.

"It's a blow but fortunately it is the one area of the team where we have adequate cover."

Southend start their League One campaign against Huddersfield Town at Roots Hall on Saturday.

Does that effect his deal? Will he come back to us to heal seeing as he's merely on loan and technically our player?
