Posted July 27, 200915 yr http://goal.com/en/news/2517/goalcom-teams...ecade-2000-2010 They picked a great team, but I would replace Ronaldinho with Lampard or Neved. Now that would be an extraordinary team.
July 27, 200915 yr As biased as i am towards chelsea i think it may have been a bit of a stretch to stick lamps above ronny for the last decade. It does however annoy me that netiher lamps or JT were in the nominations: http://www.goal.com/en/news/2517/goalcom-t...ade-nominations whilst rio ferdinand and steven gerrard both were. Seeing makelele in the team whilst expected was good to get a shoutout for chelsea. Also that Ashley cole was in the nominations was good and quite deservedly so. He is a player is so often criticised for his character (quite harshly) and so rarely praised for his fantastic ability and performances. I read somewhere the other day that in all his 73 caps for England he has not come off the bench once which is a fantastic achievement. As for the other players its a pretty fantastic lineup. In left back out of personal preference i probably would have put Roberto Carlos there and nedved could easily have been in there as well. Would have loved to see all these players in their prime playing together would have been quite a spectacle. Lastly im F**KING stoked that CR9 (the dirty prick) didnt make the team
July 27, 200915 yr i can sort of understand JT not being in as there has been some incredible defenders the last 10 years. but to not even get nominated is just ridiculous. now lampard on the other hand just proves how ridiculous these things are at times how he wasnt in the squad let alone nominated just beggars belief. hes been easily the most consistent midfielder in europe for the past 5 years, not only for his goals but simply because of the high level of his performances. others may have had better games but no midfielder has played so well for so long. f**king joke.
July 27, 200915 yr I think the glaring omissions are Del Piero and Lampard. Lampard over Gattuso. Gattuso is a good player, but I don't think he is, even in his prime, near the quality of Vieira or Makelele. Lampard has been outstanding over the past 5-6 years and definitely needs to be in that list. Messi, good as he is, really can't be listed as one of the best players over the past 10 years yet, at least in comparison to Del Piero and for that reason i'd have Del Piero. Ronaldo is an exception, because he had an unbelievable two seasons that completely raised the bar for everyone else.
July 27, 200915 yr I'm not so sure about Henry's inclusion. His playing partner Bergkamp was as good if not better and then there is RVN.
July 27, 200915 yr The list they gave is incomplete and disregards many great talents. Like everyone else, I have to agree that it is not understandable how Ferdinand can be in the line-up while Terry and Lampard are disregarded. Also, where are Del Piero, Raul and Inzaghi, they deserve probably more acclaim then many of the players that have been named in that squad.
