Posted September 14, 200915 yr 2 standing ovations from the Inter supporters. I'm not 100% sure how much Inter picked him up for, but he's adjusted very well to their team and is playing in behind the front two. He picks the ball up well, his passing is great, his shooting is a little off but it does look like he's overly eager to score. I think he is a player that we could have gotten to fit into our system quite nicely. Nothing much more to say, just wanted to let people know (well those of us who wanted him here) that he is playing well in Italy, but I'm sure some people will say that Spain and Italy are not the rough and ready league that the premiership is and that he'd not have been so good here as he'd be closed down and given no space, blah blah blah. Parma were trying to close him down all game, and he did very well in holding the ball and distributing it. I'd loved to have seen him in a Chelsea shirt....and Huntelaar, but I get to see very litle football outside of the Prem, Serie A, and a little of La Liga
September 14, 200915 yr Well said Scott. He has looked excellent in Italy, and it makes a mockery of all those who claimed he "isnt top class" or is "overrated". You certainly dont get all those caps for a country like Holland at age 25 for nothing. It was great business by Inter (once again) and terrible asset management by Madrid. Sell him before buying Ronaldo, Kaka, etc, and they may have gotten more. I dont know if he wouldve quite fit in as well as he has in Milan, but his class is undeniable Im glad to see Wesley proving all the doubters wrong. I hope van der Vaart gets his chance next year.
September 14, 200915 yr all those who claimed he "isnt top class" or is "overrated" Who would say that? ;) I thought he would have been an excellent signing for us and I'm not surprised he has played well in Italy. Definitely a top player.

Definitely a top player. uhh, plenty of people said that, sadly. Both here and elsewhere. Look at the thread on him in the rumors forum. Every few posters would chime in with stuff like that. I think some people actually thought Madrid wanted to get rid of him for footballing reasons, or something like that.

Except Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema and co would have cost much, much more. Oh and I didn't want him here, and still don't, not because he isn't a good player, simply because of where he plays.
September 15, 200915 yr Author he was playing in behind the second two. I'd much rather have him in there, and let Lampard drop back to his more central, box to box, position. Also, he's under 25, so he'd be here when Ballack and Deco get done with their contracts.
September 15, 200915 yr Except Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema and co would have cost much, much more. Much more than 80, 56 and 40 million pounds? Really? When they allegedly already had a deal tied up for Ronaldo, and Milan are admittedly in a tough financial spot? There are world class players everywhere, and with the kind of financial backing given to Real Madrid its a buyers market. Oh and I didn't want him here, and still don't, not because he isn't a good player, simply because of where he plays. He is capable of playing at various positions on the pitch sucessfully. He played outside at Madrid. He played as a recessed forward at Ajax. It just so happens that attacking midfielder is probably where he works best.
