Kris Boyd rejoins Rangers after last-ditch bid snatches striker from Aberdeen [/color]

Kris Boyd is making a dramatic return to Ibrox after Rangers made a last-minute move to persuade the striker to sign for them rather than Aberdeen.

The 30-year-old Scotland international, a free agent after running down his Kilmarnock contract at the end of a season that brought him 22 goals, has held talks with several English Championship sides as well as top-flight clubs north of the border.

Aberdeen looked to be in pole position after manager Derek McInnes confirmed a deal had been put to Boyd and said he was confident it would be accepted.

Mixed feelings mate.

Makes the Kenny Miller signing seem very strange and also pretty pointless IMO.

We now have Daly, Miller, Boyd, Clark, Gallacher and McCulloch who can play up top. Since we set up with just one striker the majority of the time it seems again we are overspending for the league we are playing in.

To me thsi suggest Daly (one of our highest earners) is sitting on the bench. With our well known miss management and financial issues I'm worried we are yet again spending money we don't have.

On Boyd it's also mixed, he WILL score goals and will be our best striker in the side so that's a plus...However he's 30 years old and was never knwon for his effort or workrate so I can't see this being long term sadly. He also turned his back on the club looking for more money which doesn't sit well with me especially since he proclaimed to be a lifelong supporter.

Modern football I guess.

Boyd and Miller will be a big help for winning the league this season but not sure they will be what we need when we get back to the top.  So far we have been buying our way up the leagues but when back at the top we will need much more to get back into Europe which is essential.

This season should be good though and very competitive when hopefully we can start to play some good football.

Confirmed:

Boyd Is Back!

RANGERS Football Club can today confirm the signing of Kris Boyd on a one-year deal.

The 30-year-old striker successfully completed his medical at Murray Park this morning and can now look forward to a second spell with the Light Blues having previously signed for the club from Kilmarnock in January 2006.

In four-and-a-half years Boyd netted a remarkable 101 league goals in 143 appearances working under Alex McLeish, Paul Le Guen and Walter Smith at Ibrox, a record which helped him become the SPL's all-time leading scorer.

With 18 caps and seven goals for the Scotland national team, he left Rangers in the summer of 2010 and went on to play for Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forrest on loan, EskiÅŸehirspor in Turkey and MLS side Portland Timbers before returning to Kilmarnock in February 2013.

This proved to be the perfect move for Boyd who enjoyed a terrific season at Rugby Park in 2013/14. He netted 22 goals to help Killie retain their Premiership status and was on the shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year award.

Having already won two Scottish Premier League titles and two Scottish Cup and two League Cup winners medals the prolific forward is now targeting further success with Rangers.

He said: “I’m thrilled to be back, I’m a Rangers fan and I know everything about the club. I’m really looking forward to the new season and it will be a tough but exciting challenge.

“In football it’s strange because you never know what can happen but as soon as I knew there was a bit of interest in me from Rangers there was only one place I was going.â€

Rangers Manager Ally McCoist said: "We’re delighted to announce that Kris has signed a one-year deal with us this morning.

“We’ve been speaking to him for a few days now and he obviously showed a great desire to come back and we were very keen for him to come back. It’s great news for the club."

I’m Hungry For More Goals

KRIS BOYD is determined to add to his incredible Rangers goal tally in 2014/15 and help fire the club to Championship glory.

The prolific marksman netted 128 goals in 192 appearances during his first spell with the Light Blues from January 2006 to May 2010, a total which puts him 20th on Rangers’ all-time leading goalscorers list.

Kris never expected to get the opportunity to return to the club he grew up supporting but speaking exclusively to RangersTV at Murray Park this morning he could not hide his excitement as he was photographed with his new number 15 jersey.

With defender Darren McGregor and Kenny Miller also bolstering Ally McCoist’s squad ahead of the Championship season, Boyd is relishing the challenges that lie ahead in Scottish football's second tier and, as ever, he is hungry for more goals.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to it. As I said to get the chance to come back to the club is fantastic and it’s a great opportunity for me to get back and score goals for this club.

“It’s what I love doing and it’s been a long time but hopefully we can hit the ground running.

“If I can get anywhere near what I did the last time I will be delighted but it's a great opportunity the management staff have given me here and it’s one I’m going to grasp with both hands.

"I know I’ve only signed for a year but the main focus is to get myself back in this jersey, scoring goals and get the club back where it belongs. We’ll wait and see what happens after that.

“Of course I want to score more goals and improve my tally but the most important thing is the team and winning games right from day one.â€

Having been away from Rangers for four years and gained the experience of playing in England with Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forrest, Turkey with EskiÅŸehirspor and the United States with Portland Timbers, Boyd believes he has improved as a player and he wants to show that to the Ibrox faithful.

He added: “I would definitely say I am more aware of the game. I’m still not going to drop back to the half way line, take on three or four people and smash it in the top bin!

“I’ll get myself into areas where hopefully I can score but there are a lot of strikers here at the moment so I need to get myself fit and in the team.

“Kenny has signed as well and I look forward to working with him but it’s up to myself, Kenny, Jon and Nicky or whoever it is to go out on the training pitches and show the manager what we can do.â€

Maybe Ally will play with four upfront.  Miller,Boyd,Daly,Clark.

Seriously I hope at least we have two strikers and play the ball into feet.  Will there be room for Templeton.
