Barcelona to lose La Liga place?

So as it stands, La Liga rules mean that Barcelona will be expelled from the league if Catalonia vote for independence.

I've heard all sorts on this topic. Some argue Catalans would object as a dominant, competitive Barcelona is a huge boon for Catalan identity. Some have pointed out La Liga would be loathe to lose a massive moneyspinner, but would there be external pressure from the Spanish government to 'punish' Catalonia? Could Barcelona use this as an opportunity to avoid the tax cases against them in Spain? Or could they even decide to compete in France instead?

Won't & doesn't arise.

First, on present polling indications it is clearly unlikely that the independence vote will succeed.

Secondly, and of more import, even were it to succeed the referendum is not the creation of the Spanish government and, in fact, has stated that irrespective of the result, it does & will not accept the legitimacy of same.

That makes it interesting.

Cant imagine independence being granted. Would be funny to see Barca not eligible for la liga though.

Will never happen.
