Mauro Icardi

Featured Replies

I was checking if there's a thread about him and haven't found. In my opinion he would be a good replacement for Remy & Drogba in the summer. Some sites says that Chelsea been linked with him. He's going to be good player, he's only 21 and Chelsea can make him a super striker.

Also there are some rumours from "Mirror" and sites from different countries.

What do you think about him?

If he manages to get his private life not interfering with his football career, he could be a good choice for the Blues (he's still rather young anyway).

Chelsea remain hopeful striker Mauro Icardi will reject a new contract at Inter Milan to join them in the summer, but face being priced out of any move for Paul Pogba.

As revealed by Standard Sport in February, Chelsea stepped up their interest in Icardi in view of strengthening their frontline in the summer.

The Argentina international has scored 20 goals this season, but Inter were confident they had agreed a new contract with the 22-year-old last month.

However, Icardi is aware of Chelsea's interest and has significantly still not put pen to paper on the deal.

Chelsea are prepared to pay Inter £22m for his signature and offer significantly more than the £38,000-a-week, after tax, salary he has been promised at the San Siro.

While Icardi has kept stating publicly his desire is to remain at Inter, he admitted earlier this week that negotiations with the club were 'at a difficult point'.

i've often wondered how "difficult" contract negotiations can be for a footballer:

"here son, there's 5 years and tonnes of cash, what say you?"

"i want more cash"

"no. there is no more cash available"

"ok. im leaving"

Maybe a bit simplistic by both of us but yeah, that's how I see.

Club offers a new contract of X amount, players says he wants Y amount, they meet somewhere in the middle at Z amount.

Maybe it's because I can only dream of earning the kind of money these players do but surely you get to a point where you're already earning a sickening amount of money each week is the difference of earning £150k a week really going to impact your daily life as apposed to earning £200k a week?

Your playing the sport you love for a living and earning enough out of it to be set for life, why so much drama all the time?

I understand where you're coming from, but you also got to understand that most footballers are done by the time they are around 30. Well, done playing at the top level anyway, so from then on wages are going to be very low and soon after they'll have to retire. Lets say you just retire at 35, you're gonna need the money you earned to pretty much last you the rest of your life. And if you live up to age 70, thats pretty much another 35 years to go without a job lasting on money you've already earned. So i can understand why they keep asking for more.

Also regarding the thread itself, I wouldn't want him. Much rather give Bamford the 3rd choice striker slot, unless we sell Remy and Icardi is our no.2 then I wouldn't mind him

Let's say a player is earning £80k a week.

That's just over £4m a year.

Let's say they have 10 years at the top.

That's £40m.

Let's say half of that goes of tax and agent fees.

That's £20m.

If someone is unable to live on £20m for their whole life they're an idiot.

Oh I completely agree, but footballers are pretty much mostly idiots :P

They don't know how to spend within their means and will just splash their money on all sorts of things, which is why most of them are broke now
