Friendly: Scotland v Argentina, Hampden Park, 2 June 1979

-Diego Maradona's first goal for Argentina.

Argentina simply destroyed Scotland that day.
Their 3-1 win, does not nearly do their superiority justice.  
A 6 or 7 -1 scoreline would have been a far better reflection.

Diego Maradona scores Argentina's third goal in their 3-1 victory over Scotland at Hampden in 1979 as team-mates Luque and Houseman look on. Maradona (far left) wears a Scotland top and salutes the crowd after the final whistle. Argentina and Maradona received a standing ovation at the end of the game, from memory.

And since then every kid in Argentina wants to be built like him, Tevez, Aguero, Messi... But there is only one Maradona.

Hard to believe that he came close to signing for Sheffield United who decided to sign Alex Sabella instead. 

Personally I queued all night to get a ticket for the Man Utd v Barcelona match in 1984 to get a chance to see him play. Ironically he had a very quiet night and United won deservedly.

Kenny Dalglish and Daniel Passarella lead their respective  teams out at Hampden.
