Guest Brian M
Nice to see a bit of loyalty from a player. Even if he does play for Sp*rs. PS: While I don't rate him as highly as some on here (seems a poor man's Zlatan if you ask me!) I think he's a talented bugger, and one I'd rather NOT see playing for Manure, thanks... BERBATOV DISMISSES UNITED TALK Posted 12/07/07 10:06EmailPrintSave Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov has again laughed off speculation linking him with a ?40million move to Manchester United this summer. The Bulgarian was stunned when Spurs forked out ?11million to sign him from German club Bayer Leverkusen last summer and insists reports suggesting he is now worth almost four times that figure are "abnormal". And when questioned about the United link, Berbatov maintained he was happy to stay at Spurs after the club made him feel so welcome after his arrival in England. He told The Sun: "Look, last summer when Spurs told me they were willing to pay ?11million for me, I asked them if they were off their heads. "Now the word seems to be that my value is ?40million and that's simply an abnormal sum of money. "The paradox is that I scored more goals and played even better when I was with Leverkusen but no way was I valued this highly. "The truth is everyone in the world of English football seems to look at things quite differently to what I am used to. "With regards to the whole Manchester United business, I just have to say that I'm very happy at Spurs. "Even more importantly, I recognise that Tottenham has given me everything in order to make my time in the Premier League a success and I feel stupendously grateful to them. So I'm happy where I am." RedRobMol
shows up how wrong the brittish transfer system and market is. He is a good player, but for anyone to put his value at anything like ?40 is "abnormal" in the extreme. nice that some players realise this. Would you still consider that to be abnormal, given that Liverpool have spent nearly ?30m on a Striker, who arguably, will not score as many goals as Berbatov this season? Rob? Rob? i like berbatov, but there has been a lot of unneccesary w**king over him this season. His stats... Name Dimitar Berbatov Team Tottenham Hotspur Total Appearances 32 Starts 29 Substituted 3 Total Minutes Played 2625 Avg Minutes Played Per Start 90.52 Goals 12 Avg Goal Mins When Starting 16.0 Avg Mins Played/Goal Scored 219 Goals Scored As Sub 0 Number of Bookings 1 Total Booking Minutes 30 Avg Bookings Per Start 0.03 Number of Red Cards 0 Total Red Card Minutes 0 Avg Red Cards Per Start 0 Avg Booking Minutes When Starting 1.0 If Torres scores less than 12 in 32 this season i will be very disappointed. Also "nearly ?30m"? where does that come from. It is universally understood that we spent around ?20m on him, although it was thought to be near ?26m initially the final figures put forward by most sources seem to be ?20m. In fact a reliable source of mine suggests it was ?18.2m
Elliott
So potentially, ?26m. Call me a liar for 4. Unfortunately, Rob, i agree with you to some extent. There was too much hype surrounding Berba. But largely due to the fact that Spurs probably get one decent player, what, every ten years? I think he scored quite a few in cup competitions, but it's plain to see that he is a fantastic footballer, not just a striker. (God forbid Liverpool are viewed as buying big, eh?) I still have you as ?10m out though, as all the ?26m references seem to have gone away.
loz
For a start the ?40m price tag is not an actual valuation of Berbatov, it is just a silly figure that has come out of typical transfer tittle tattle so I don't think there is really a basis for saying it is a ridiculous price tag. We don't need to resort to paper created transfer fees to know that Uk clubs are paying silly money - we only need to look at the actual fees that have been paid. Bent, Bellamy, Koumas, Kamara, Torres, Nani, Anderson, Hargreaves and Babel (granted the Babel deal is not concluded) are all players that have been transferred for fees inflated beyond their ability. Personally I would also add Malouda to that list although some will argue that he is a well established French international. Bottom line is there is a ridiculous amount of cash swilling around in the Premiership now and suddenly everyone is spending stupidly, just as we did when Roman first took over. We said it then and we are proven right now, they moaned when we did it and those moans were nothing but jealousy, now that they have the ability to do likewise they are falling over themselves to fork out for players.
