Posted January 15, 200817 yr From the Guardian Rumour mill: http://football.guardian.co.uk/rumourmill/...2241057,00.html In The Sun Alex Ferguson is said to be "fuming" like an inadequately maintained wood-burning stove at a remark by Jonathan Pearce during his Match Of The Day commentary on the 6-0 duffing up of Newcastle. Pearce apparently told viewers: "It's a Manchester United romp - and they are all getting in on the act." Which is, in Fergie's feverish mind at least, a cheeky reference to certain horrible events at a certain horrible Christmas party. Enduring image, isn't it?
January 15, 200817 yr can you remember pearce going way ott at the start of the season when liverscum thrashed Derby (like most teams) saying they'll be really tough to beat in the title, they're here to stay, everyone watching in fear etc, Chelsea, Arse and man u will be worried...at the time I wrote how ott he'd been, now he's been proven completely wrong
January 16, 200817 yr I remember coming back from Brugge away (95/96 I think) and meeting him on the ferry home. He was with Alan Mullery and working for Capital Gold at the time. Capital Gold Radio couldn't have had much of a budget back then, as their 2 match reporters were on the ferry home with all the Chelsea fans, most of whom had been banged up in a cattle holding pen in a field all night. On top of that Pearce is not the best sea-fearer, to put it mildly, and spent alot of the time sprinting to and from the toilet with bulging cheeks, ready to spew. We (Chelsea fans, Pearce and Mullery) were all sitting around a table and he had a small tape recorder, taping all the stories one after the other, and said he'd play them on his Sunday morning show, and tell everyone how badly all the Chelsea fans were treated. A fella who we travelled with was interviewed but asked if he could leave his name off the tape, because if Pearce played it on the radio, the fella's wife might hear it, and she thought he'd been away on a business trip!!! not away following Chelsea Apparently he played snippets of the interviews he'd recorded and was about the only reporter to factually report how badly Chelsea fans were treated out there. Will always remember him for that! He was a genuinely decent bloke and a football person. He is probably better suited to radio commentry because he gets so passionate, but the Beeb probably have a better travel arrangements for their commentators.

There's far worse than him around. The one that stands out for me is Motty's hysterical commentary on the Arse's win over Wigan. The Arse looked ordinary and were struggling to beat relegation fodder, yet he was having an orgasm over it.
