So a knock out cup competition is harder to win than the EPL, La Liga, Serie A, etc....

Seriously?

The man's a f*cking idiot and all his chat just stinks of desperation and self-justification.

If I were Fat Rafa, I'd a) go on a diet and ;) keep my head down and hope the media spotlight avoids me and my underperforming, out of the title race already (again) team for a little bit.

Well I have to agree with him...sort of.

To win the Champions League you need luck.

To win the league you need a good enough team.

Example:

When we knocked out Barcelona in 2005 they went out before some teams who weren't as good as them.

Had the teams played in a league instead then Barca would have finished higher.

And would Porto have won the premier league? Probably not (even though they had a brilliant manager).

So, it might be harder to win the Champions League in some aspects anyway. The best team doesn't always win. In the Premier League the best team usualy wins (which is why Pool hasn't won in a while).

the thing is though, the only reason they have had good cl runs of late is because they have been so far behind in the league that they could cruise to 4th place while concentrating on europe. obviosuly he missed the irony of what he said
