  15. I thought I was right as for the hardware shop thought about replying to that but I know he likes to keep that side of things private. There was a firm of fourbees off Downham trying to think of that geezers name was it Bloggsy or Dobbsy?
  16. The remember the 'the London Utd' meets in the mid to late Seventies as said previously it was mainly Chels and Arsenal we used to meet for a drink on Monday nights in a pub in Villiers St then go off to either the Sundowner or Lyceum. The first Saturday one I went to was Man City - Newcastle League Cup final in 1976 loadsa offs with the Geordies The following FA Cup final was even worse the Mancs got well battered remember seeing some getting stabbed on the steps at Trafalger Square. Can't recall seeing many Spurs there everybody hated them anyway I would have thought 75% at least were Chelsea or Arsenal. I remember going up the Kings Road after one game as well to let the Punks and Teds Know who really ruled the Kings Road
  17. Am I correct in assuming that the Lower Tier on the New East Stand was originaly going to be terracing because there used to a little bit of new Terracing jutting out of the North End of the stand which was never opened to spectators?
  18. Sunderland away 1975 definatly in my all time top 5 away trips from the time the first special arrived at Seaburn to when the train broke down at St Neots. The look on the Old Bill and the Sunderland fans faces as we charged off the train was priceless all they kept saing nobody ever comes not even Man U
  19. In Kent it's normally keep clear of the marshes
  20. He was from the Tunbridge Wells area I remember over 30 years ago going on the piss we my mates from work we got a train to Tun Wells one of the blokes from work lived in High Brooms told us about the pub he drank in Camden Road in Tunbridge Wels Everybody was a bit dubious going in there I decided to go in first as usual with these pubs everybody turned around darts stopped in mid air pub fell silent then a voice boomed out "allo mate" it was hicky and the rest of his mob the local from work now sounding a bit relieved said "trust you P-----t to konow this mob"
  21. I'm sure Jenkins used to live in Penge
  22. As with many other posters my memory has been savaged by years of alcohol abuse and I can't remember who was on what side of the fence all I remember we went in on the right hand side of the turnstiles which was the Blackpool side there was scuffles all the way up the steps seem to recall the fence went all the way from the turnstiles up the steps and on to the terrace where there was a bit of a battle before the police took us to the correct side
  23. My neighbour has just come back from a break in Blackpool it got me thinking about past trips to there 2 trips stand out in my mind 1976/77 when it was Scottish weekend as well and loads of Rangers and Celtic fans turned up for the game as well the other time was 1979/80 when we played Preston away and Greenaway billed it as a 'promotion party' in Blackpool he ran 2 coaches up to Blackpool booked us into a hotel as 50 married couples we was all thrown out after the first night and it made headlines in the local paper the next day the coaches took us to the game on the way back to Blackpool the coaches were intercepted by the police and started to escort down the M6 motorway back towards London despite protest about all our stuff still being back at Blackpool. We made the driver pull into the next service station still with a police escort once there the doors opened and we all bolted across the fields the old bill didn't bother to chase us we found a small village with a pub which had just opened barmaid told us there was a bus back to Preston in a couple of minute drank our pints caught the bus then a train to Blackpool arriving back knackered finding the others in a pub lotsa stories where swapped including one where some fans allegedly tried to steal a train don't know how true that was had anybody else heard that story
  24. DH collecting 'fines' on the football specials that brings back memories we was pretty lucky he didn't bother us too much with that. Soon graduated to Inter City Trains with the advent of the Persil ticket used to laugh at the piles of spilt washing powder on the floors of the shops around Kings X/Euston where fans had gone in and cut them of the packets
