  1. Even though I wouldn't admit it at the time or for years afterwards the most scariest time at a ground for me was Millwall 1976 lucky I was with the second lot in with B and the boys from Fulham, the rest of us from Lewisham, Slough boys and a few other odds and sods mainly a coach load from Bletchley we met in Swan pub in Lee High Road and walked to Lewisham Station and got a train to New Cross got off the train there about half 2 to walk to the Den bit of a scuffle outside the New Cross Inn only to find Rumpole Plummy and few others drinking in there we joined up and continued to the ground meeting up with others who were running away saying "don't go in there we're getting battered". Got in the CBL at the back in the middle by the bar and steamed in we caught them by surprise they ran at first most of their mob was up the ilderton Road end finishing of the remnants of the first wave held our for most of the game but was a bit hairy afterwards as we got split up
  2. Started mid 70s in the Black Bull when Noel was guvnor then pub became a bit poncey i think became an Art Gallery at one point. cant remember in which order next then the Rose, Imperial and a couple of others before we became settled in the Brewers in the North End Road Frank the guvnor was alright he locked the doors at three mainly for the Market traders letting you in by the side door it was the only place to get a beer after the game (Before all day opening) as the police made most pubs stay shut until 7 on a match many a time 3 a clock came the booze was flowing and it was f**k the game
  3. B all day long preferred the pub much better than route marches around some god forsaken northern hole with DH SH was a laugh but I never forget Old Nutty (RIP) chasing him round the old West Stand after he left him behind in Hereford
  4. Only just read this thread remember Julian really well every over word was maaannnn!!! used to wear a dirty camel hair coat and was scared of crossing bridges over water he's in the picture with B and DH going up the escalator at Tottenham Hale in 1978
  5. I was there at Tottenham in 75 met at Liverpool St and got the train to White Hart Lane we had quite a good mob but when we got to the ground all the gates were locked apart from one in the Paxton end a few got in before that one was shut. The trouble with Chelsea in those days we was too fragmented, did not organise, didn't go anywhere early and preferred to be in the pub. I remember being in a pub with a few faces at a home game against West Ham when the door opened with a young lad saying West Ham were in the Shed the response was they would rather be in the pub we'll sort them out later which to be fair we gave it a go on the way to the ground and afterwards. We were a young firm compared to West Ham in them days going down to second division for a couple of seasons giving a good account against Millwall and we came back much older wiser and harder first firm to go to Man U in big numbers and run them for example
  6. I saw them win there 3-1 in 1970 always remember a towering Ian Hutchinson header at The North Bank end we was in the Kiddies enclosure parallel with it sparked my first experience of football violence (could be a start of a new thread) some young Arsenal Skin tried to nick the kids scarf next to me I grabbed hold of it a tug of war ensued which in turn went to kicks and punches got the scarf back 12 years old and hooked
  7. Being fairly new to this forum have been going through loads of the old threads brought back loadsa memories from the 70s and 80s I thought I might try and start a new one. I think it was either 1973 or 1974 we played Crystal Palace in a Testimonial at Selhurst Park in a night game I was still at school and used to work most Saturdays so night games was the only time I could go then. As it was a local game decided to go with a couple of mates we stood in the White Horse end didn't see many Chelsea there outside afterwards we bumped into a few Chelsea mostly younger than me (I was 15/16 at the time) led by a big bloke with curly hair and tashe wearing a Starksy type cardigan he decided we would go up towards the Holmesdale End and have a pop at Palace Hundreds of Palace came charging down the road towards us with that the Chelsea turned and run I stood there with a couple of mates we were not gonna run from Palace they just run past us laughing and cheering as they realised they had just run Chelsea without a punch thrown we just stood there in shock I don't think they even noticed us. We started to walk up to the Bus stop to get a 75 bus home hoping that the kids at school (mostly Millwall) wouldn't find out being run by Palace I felt humiliated at the bus stop we noticed a few Palace lads walking towards us full of it. It was time to exact a bit of revenge we ran over to them landed a couple of blows and kicks they turned and run as they did I heard a cry "Stephen" turned round and saw me mum and dad and yonger brother standing there shocked they had been to the game as well just when you thought it couldn't get any more embarrasing
  8. Your right the meet was in that pub at 5 30 (No all day opening)funny old night to have a game (pre sky) went straight from work suited and booted no time to change never got to the game big tear up outside the queens after getting off the the tube there was some roadworks there the signs ended up being used. I stood out like a sore thumb in my browm 3 piece the old bill shouted get the lad in the brown suit. Ended up in East Ham nick instead of West Ham Ground

  10. That was my second away game one of only two games I've been terrorised at stood near Kojak in the enclosure where the players come out with the gurk and Mark W all game we heard annoying scouse voices asking "You the the Chelsea leader mate" but none of them would have a go managed to get a bus back to lime street unscathed sitting on the special watching Chels stragglers come back minus their leather coats etc we got our revenge in first season back 77/78 it was sweet That was se
  11. the vinegar didn't taste any different from the beer that's why every one drunk bottled beer before it came fashionable happy days lobbing the empty bottles across the bar into the wheely bin behind the jump
  12. Godd luckk to your son on Tuesday mate Hope he punches harder than the old man
  13. The trap has been sprung albeit a week too late Cathy D Eh! I have hazy memories of being pinned up against the juke box in the public bar but managed to escape Couldn't beleive how much the Northbrook had changed when I went in there a couple of weeks ago I reckon the guvnor nowadays would have a heart attack if he went back in time 30 odd years`ago and landed in the public bar on a Friday night
  14. I'm sure the game was early Auggust 1975 Anglo Scottish Cup a week or two before first league game away at Sunderland (what a day that was) remember it quite well Black Bull was our pub Guvnors name was Noel i think I remember Old B getting the dart in his head.
