  1. Best Chelsea Badge/ Motif ever IMO, was the one in 84- rampant lion, circular badge with all the trimmings, but the outer rim was turquoise rather than navy- one was on the hoarding next to the directors box, and another above the shed turnstilles. If you go online google CFC Badge, there,s rakes of variations but none featuring turquoise. Pics anyone.....
  2. Anyone remember last game of the season at Bramhall Lane 93? Some great fancy dress- flat caps, braces, torn up brown bread as the tickertape reception plus Hovis theme belted out regularly- a fella sitting next to me had a plastic pigeon strapped to his head. The next season we relegated them at the Bridge- The Sheds last stand. The song went up 'your ...., and your going down.... Next thing they've scored. Cue ' your ...., and your staying up! I really miss those days....
  3. I vaguely remember Tube Army being mentioned- might have been after London Undergound ambushes against Man U, Everton and the like. Ickys Semi Men? We all remember that bit of Graffiti- confused the .... out of a lot of people over the years that one!
  4. for my 17th Birthday in Nov 82 i got hold of a black blue and green diamond Pringle, which I wore the next day to Barnsley Away- The main reason I quit my A Levels was because I was money hungry to indulge football, clothes and going out. I'm sure that's not an uncommon scenario. Re replica shirt discussion, never ever worn one to a game
  5. Update on the pre-season training jaunt in Aberystwyth- 84. ... If we go back to the photos of the runs among'st the sand dunes, there's one where there' s a gaggle in the top left corner on a hillock- the fella looking at a clipboard in Jimmy Hendry; he's a regular at me new local-Was assistant to Norman Medhurst from 77 till 87- didnt go full time till 79 apparantly - Glasweigan Gers boy by nature and a great crack. I showed the training photos from the forum in me local and the story's started flowing.... He wouldn't be happy if I gave out all the tales connected with that trip, but a couple of throwaways- Jimmy used to look after the celts- half the team circa 84 were Scotch or Welsh circa 84- anyway a rake of em bowled up at a chip shop on the seafront- the fella behind the counter rather than ask em if they wanted small or large, said how many chips d'you want; 30 or 50? Duncan Shearer replied ' if your gonna be counting em I canna be bothered'! I'll stick a picture up of the very amusing Jimmy H
  6. By all accounts he was a bit like Shearer- strong, quick, clean feet, good in the air. I know he signed in 84 and didn't make an appearance- did he hang around all year in the Ressies or did he bugger off? Good day out that was v Luton. Big punch up in Kingsbury after I believe
  7. I do get the possibility that David didn't realise the value of his images. I could see them going down a storm in a photographic exiibition - its social history as he pointed out. A fella knocked around with and photographed the Spurs vermin in 78, and stapled together a rag called ' We are the Tottenham Boys' Original copies now trade hands for hundreds of sheckles. I've no problem with the fella earning a crust out the thing- Id happily pay to view all these photos, book form whatever. Its just the present ' dog in a manger' attitude after all these years that's a tad frustrating. Go on David, You can do it mate!
  8. I was showing this to a fella who was backroom staff at the time who now happens to frequent my local. Apparently Derek Johnson had a wee swally the night before and was told by John Neal- that's gonna come back up tomorrow morning Son. Cut a long story, at the end of the session the next day they were one short for the coach going back to the hotel- turns out DJ had done a bunk and got a cab the .... out of there!
  9. if it was the same game Greenaway was in the top bit of the Riverside Stand, towards the Putney End, and whilst it weren't uncommon for him to get clapped to his seat he received a right old reception that day. Bit of trivia, Fulhams record attendance was 48,000 odd against Millwall in 38. The reason why so many bowled up? Because we were due to play at home but the game got called off. Fulham fans don't often mention that oddly enough!
  10. One of the all time crushes in our end that day. ....ing hot too
  11. I wasnt a member of the forum when David posted these pictures many months ago, but got very exited at the prospect of seeing the 100s of photos from this era. I can only guess that he used the premise of creating an album as a device to make contact with a few of the old boys he knew from back then, and for whatever reason renaged on his promise. Bit of a poor show IMO
  12. apologies for formatting cock up- the street scene is ' mind your car ' country, Everton away 85. by the way the only places I remember this racket was at the two Liverpool clubs plus Man City. Newcastle away is from the promotion year in 84- Its been mentioned on here before that one of the specials that I was with came under sustained attack as they walked us in from Manors station. West Ham was September 84
  13. No ticket for that one alas. A load of us watched it in the now defunct Woodman on Battersea High St, then crossed the river for the festivities on the Kings Rd after. One thing i recall was that pretty everyone, be it CFC fans or resident Sloane Rangers, were celebrating together down the whole length of the KR- Posh birds drinking champagne straight out the bottle, cars honking their horns etc etc. We ended up staying the night at some strangers in South Kensington.
  14. He put in some service that groundsman; I remember watching a Saint and Greavesie some time in the mid 80s. Jimmy was having a laugh and a joke about old times with him- he came across as a bit of a character I remember
  15. My wife's Mount Road Mitcham; my family are Wandsworth/ St Helier Estate. For many years now there' s been a strong link beteen CFC and that wondrous fairyland otherwise known as Mitcham- Mitcham Royals produced a few Chelsea players, the old training ground, in the early 80s the combined Mitcham/ Morden contingent were a bit of a force firm wise. Very few of those lads still live that way now mind
  16. 82,905. i think that is the second highest top flight attendance figure ever after 84,000 at Maine Road. Changing subject completely, does anyone remember one of the programme vendors in the Shed Forecourt during the late 70s, who used to bark out -' Programme programme, programme and magazine'? The last bit used to come out as one word- programmeandmagazine. What was the magazine? Also, who remembers the fella who stood at the top of the stairs as you came into the the Whitewall selling Chelsea lottery/ golden goals tickets? He was in his late 20s and had a tache
  17. A man of many haircuts. His last season of regular play would have been 82-83, which was Speedos first year. Cant remember the game, but was watching from the very back of the East Stand with the old man; he used to love it up there for some reason - it was lamping it down - they were both the same size and had bald patches- from up in the Gods in the p...... rain in it was nigh on impossible to tell them apart
  18. So many memories of the West Stand. I reckon it became a bit of a chaps hangout a season after Gate 13 got going- 83 ish, Can recall when we had Pompey Xmas 83; was in Gate 13, an old hand I was sitting close to was pretty dismissive of the benches/ seats when Pompey came walking over- they cant do .... all that lot being his exact words. The television gantry was above. Cant remember how anyone accessed it?
