What’s Werner going to do in the middle? Skew over the bar from one yard out? I guess it’s worth a try though; just depends on CHO’s match fitness.

Part of the issue last season was we didn’t take our chances to offset the defensive shambles. Despite the cash spent we’re, for the moment, no further forward (no pun intended).

We’ve got to face facts - Allison is better than Mendy, TAA is better than Dave, Robertson is better than Emerson (and probably Chilwell), their midfield has better fluency and balance whilst their front three are superb. Klopp had utterly no choice but start Williams; there’s a difference in throwing a youngster in as there isn’t an alternative and taking a gamble despite having alternatives. Saying that I think Mount wide right and Werner in the middle may have made more sense though not sure who would take his place in the middle - Kovacic or Havertz?

We lost to an Everton side without Rodrigues and a Wolves side without Jiminez. Villa managed to beat the latter at the weekend. After £250m+ spent isn’t it a surprise questions are being asked?

To be fair, it may have been a different game had they not scored from a corner which shouldn’t have been. Isn’t VAR allowed to look at that? We should have defended it better, though.

The question is who replaces Werner (or more likely Giroud so Werner moves central) on the right? Changing to a wing back system won’t work as we’d then lose the threat of Pulisic.
