Most likely not, since Ancelotti was sacked Roman hasn't been as ruthless over the past decade. Mourinho was only let go by Christmas once we were near the relegation zone. Lampard was sacked when we were 9th after 19 games after a 200m transfer window. Conte fell out with the board, but he did miss out on top 4. Sarri was allowed to stay on, he just wanted to leave. The Di Matteo sacking was pretty harsh but the CL win did cover up the fact we finished 6th below Newcastle under him. The Tuchel sacking is right up there with the Ancelotti and Mourinho 1 sackings. When you add the fact that we sacked him 6 games in after spending 250m on players he seemingly wanted, it's one of the worst decisions this club has made in a long time.

From the first press conference Tuchel talked about challenging for everything, even though we were in free fall when he took over. We went on to salvage top 4, reach the FA Cup final (losing to a dodgy VAR decision) and win the Champions League. That's the kind of mentality he brought to the club.

To be fair he's had some decent performances under Tuchel and Sarri. Nowhere near good enough to be a starter though, a backup option at best, and even then that should be given to Carney or someone with potential. We desperately need an elite midfielder like Frenkie De Jong thoough, especially if we continue to play with a 2 man midfield.

My money's on De Zerbi. Getting Brighton to play nice football seems to be enough to qualify you for the Chelsea job these days

Should've just kept Colwill and Ampadu tbh, would've saved money and helped their development.

All our problems? No of course not. Our attackers are still woeful and our quality midfielders are all 30+ and hardly fit anymore. However, under Tuchel we would at least be tough to beat, and not have to rely on Kepa to bail us out against mid table sides. We know what the end project would look like with Tuchel with the right recruitment, we've seen enough flashes of how good his sides can be, nobody knows what the end result with Potter would look like. Brighton isn't Chelsea, they mostly played against sides that would come at them not sit back, not to mention we don't know whether Potter can handle a dressing room of top class players as well.

Our attack is worse now than it was under Tuchel.

Last season up till the Lukaku fiasco and the injury crisis we looked a world class team, every bit capable of competing with City and Liverpool.

I mean if getting Tuchel back is a possibility I'd be all for it. With the right players he's shown we can be an absolutely world class team. Look at the start of last season before the injury crisis, not to mention the Champions League win.

I don't think anyone will be able to play Kante unfortunately, at least not at his usual level. Which is why it's crazy the amount of stick Tuchel got for our performances in his last few months. We were literally playing without our best player. These past few weeks under Potter have arguably been just as bad if not worse than any run of games during Tuchel's period. There doesn't seem to be any real idea of the kind of football he wants us to play either after 2 months of coaching. The only differences is we have less possession during games and we're more vulnerable now.

Tuchels 3 at the back system >>> Potter's 3 at the back system. When all our players were fit (particulary Kante) we dominated games whilst staying rock solid at the back, Guardiola was terrified of us going into the CL final.

I'd argue Arsenal's success is more down to their recruitment policy under Edu than Arteta being a tactical genius. We need a good Director of Football asap, over any new manager/player. It's a big shame we missed out on Christoph Freund from Salzburg, even our recruitment under Emenalo was far better than it is now.

Why didn't we give Tuchel time? He was pretty close to the 150 games, 5 cup finals a Champions League win and 2 top 4 finishes to go with it.

On that list, only Trippier and Bruno Guimares would be Chelsea signings, and Trippier would probably be on the bench for Reece normally. There's no excuse for Newcastle being so much better than us

Seems a lot more tactically astute than Potter though. It's not like Newcastle have really splashed the cash on world class players either, if he gets top 4 with them it would be an incredible achievement.

I'd argue that applies far more to Sterling than Mount. 5 G/A in 7 games under Tuchel, since Potter came in and moved him to LWB he's been awful.

I backed Ancelotti Conte and Tuchel all the way, agree that they were turned on by some fans far too quickly though.

There's a difference between backing an elite manager like Guardiola and backing an unproven manager like Potter. With an elite manager it's patience knowing they can build a world class team, with an unproven manager it's just blind faith hoping they'll somehow come good in a few years.

I would assume our attack since Hazard left. Though start of last season when Lukaku was motivated we looked pretty good. The issue there is more the quality of our attackers than any tactics. However Graham Potter seems to be creating more issues, our control of games that we had under Tuchel seems to have vanished.

Would Potter count as an underperformer?

He started from a team that was consistently in the Europa League. 4th is progress under those circumstances. The biggest difference however, is the Klopp and Pep have a record of success with top teams. So at least we would know what the end goal looks like, so they would get a lot more leeway. Potter doesn't have that same record, finishing 9th with Brighton (whilst being 16th in goals scored) isn't a record of success.
