Jose is never going to play the tippy-tappy football with the soft underbelly football. The likes of Mata, Hazard, and especially Oscar are going to be doing defensive duty, and if they don't, they will be made to know who is in charge, similar to the situation with Joe Cole. Under Jose, we were tough to break down and always had the key players that could pop up with a goal, so would more often than not grind teams down. I expect that would be the model he would bring back, if a deal can be ironed out. If Roman had a problem with that, he would have looked elsewhere for our next manager. Or he should, for his own sake. But I'd gladly go back to the "enemy of football" model that won us no friends but brought us plenty of silverware, and an identity that I loved. We got under Barca's and Bayern's skin because they were frustrated by our ability to go toe to toe with them on the pitch and beat them when they felt we had no right to. Cheers, Butch

I think discussions have take place, either directly between Roman and Jose, or through Jose's agent. I do NOT think these will go smoothly, and obviously either one or both will have to compromise on their "wants" for this to go through as a lot of us want it to. From Roman's side, he obviously wants success (which signing Jose despite the past history is aimed at trying to guarantee), but he also has his "system" in place and would want the least disruptions possible. He has players he likes, and he has men in high places that he likes, e.g. Emenalo. From Jose's side, I'd be absolutely stunned if he didn't demand that Lamps' contract be extended, and he will want "power", i.e. the ability to choose the players he wants and not have someone, e.g. Emenalo, undermine him. So, what will happen? I never thought this would be easy, and I really don't expect it will. It would be difficult for any real progress in negotiations to happen while the season is still active. There will likely be a bit of posturing involved from now until the end of the season, e.g. Chelsea being linked with other managers like Pellegrini and Jose being rumored to be considering other clubs or even staying at Madrid (which I don't believe can happen). I think the biggest rivals for Jose's signature are PSG and Man City. I still hold hope of a successful agreement being reached in the end, but because I want this so much, I expect a bit of an emotional roller coaster before it does happen. Cheers, Butch
